The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Happy Boxing Day! Here we rest up for New Years Eve after Christmas.

No rest here. Son and his family arrive tomorrow. I'm going easy. Kielbasa, sauerkraut, and pierogis for when they arrive. Ham, scalloped potatoes and green beans for supper. Princess is making French toast on Thursday, and then we send them home.

Oh i forgot to post. @bruceha2000 these are the graters we used. Mom says the blue one sucks but idk, i didn't use it. And we grated it exactly like this, side to side. Probably not how you're supposed to do it? But we were in a hurry/stressed out/wanted it to go in the measuring cup.

Will post some pics from today later.

Bruce, did you get snow?
Those are very old Graters!

If they are dull, you might want to get a new one.

Nice and sharp!

Since I don't eat either, I really don't know. But they probably do have to do something different to get those slices to a texture that the wrapping machine doesn't destroy them and they don't break up when unwrapped. So the two probably are different in some ways.

I suspect you did it the only way you could. Now I see why the grating was a PITA though. Seems you would need 3 hands, 2 to hold the grater and one to run the cheese across the surface while the grater wants to move in the same direction.

We have one like this:

A cheap $7, there are more expensive ones. You might be able to buy one of these at the grocery store or in the kitchen section of a hardware store.

Stand it in a big bowl and hold it down with one hand and hold the cheese with the other. You don't HAVE to use a bowl but I figure that way there is not need to make sure the counter is really clean ;) You could just do it onto a cutting board as well.

With a box grater you are pushing both the cheese and the grater down onto a solid surface so you don't have to fight against yourself. I think it would be substantially easier than the kind you have, plus the grating surface is probably twice the size of yours. It has small holes on one side, large on the other. Can't say I've ever tried to slice using the 3 wide cutters nor the really fine grater nibs on the side opposite those. I think that would be used for really hard cheese like Parmesan that you want fine like it comes out of a shaker.

Only maybe 2-3". Mr. NOAA missed by a fair bit. I'm not complaining though, the 30 mile trip down to the in-laws was a non issue.

Fortunately y'all warned me not to look and I didn't! Sounds really bad. :(

That makes sense, they probably add more chemicals.

And thanks, I'll have to get that one!

Yeah, we didn't even get that much. We got a dusting. I thought maybe further north like Vermont would get some. My brother said there's like a foot in New Hampshire. They went up skiing.

In Erie, PA where my mom's family and some of my old friends from school are, they got legit like 3 feet of snow lol

It was two when we talked last night and then they got like another foot overnight. Lake effect. It's lucky they all made it for Christmas

Thanks!

Now i dont know which one to get lol

Also need measuring spoons (we always get them but then they separate/get mismatched or in the latest instance, the numbers fade off!) So I searched it and found two that were like "Amazon choice" or whatever. And now I have a question. Who knew it would be so hard to choose measuring spoons haha it's actually technically 3 options.

Okay, so this is the first set. This is Amazon's Choice so displayed right at the top. Seems nice enough. I like the deep spoons

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00I...ing+spoons&dpPl=1&dpID=41NPe8y26ZL&ref=plSrch

But then I saw this one, the second result, and it seems like a good idea. This one has oval or rectangular. Make sure to at least click both and look at some of the pictures of them/the design please.

It's hard because I love the first ones but then maybe the oval or rectangular is a good idea so it can fit into the spice jar.... but then I could always just take the lid off it..... didnt think of that before.

But I don't know. I'm just so indecisive!

Someone decide for me. :lau

My input is not going to be helpful...:duc I have two sets of measuring spoons and cups. One set is more comfortable (soft handles, BIG bright markings), but too flimsy on some ingredients. The second is heavy duty stainless steel, plenty strong but hard to read. Both sets are round, but I often wish they were another shape to more easily fit the jar. My crazy recommendation: Go to someplace like walmart and look, touch and feel for what's comfortable for you. Then go to a high end Store and do the same. Take note of brands and specifications then look on amazon etc to compare prices for what you like.
