The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Ron, I have a drawer and a cabinet dedicated to measuring devices and two scales.:lau

ETA: I need at least two more scales as well.
I have one scale but it is a better one than the one that broke!

Timers... I have 4 timers and sometimes need more. I also have a temperature probe...Currently in a loaf of bread. Bread will be cooked when it gets to 190-205F.

Some cooking and baking is science! Other parts is art

Not that I'm a pack rat or anything, but I still have most of the set my Grandmother gave me when I was 8 and I still use them from time to time, and every time I do, it brings back fond memories of cooking with her.;)
I would keep them but i guess they left them in the house up north so either brother has them or threw them out.

I think you just forgot
I guess so, old age?? Maybe you need to point me back to those pictures to jog my memory.

But the good news is...tiramisu! You have to try at least a bite. It's fabulous!
Anyone who likes coffee and sweet stuff is more than likely going to love Tiramisu.

Someone decide for me. :lau
I don't think you can go wrong with either of them @KDOGG331. We have a plastic set, it measures fine but the numbers wear off. Should we decide to get any more, I'm going with the stainless ones that have the numbers "etched" into the spoons.

Funny to learn I'm not the only one with multiple measuring cups, spoons, scales, etc. I like having more than one set so I don't have to stop to wash something just to reuse it when cooking. See how smart that is? I dirty up twice as much so I don't have to wash twice, lol.

I actually got a new set of measuring spoons when we went to Ft. Collins, this new one is narrow & rectangular so no problem fitting into spice jars. Then I have my chicken ones that were a gift from DH, a couple sets of plastic ones, another set of metal ones that are round. Um, ok, quite a few actually :hmm

I love shopping for kitchen stuff!

I have a drawer dedicated to temperature things and one dedicated to funnels.

ETA: Craziest thing about my thermometers... The $9.00 model is one of the best. I check it against my thermoworks cheese thermometer and it is way more accurate than the $60 ones.

Yeah, that's my problem. The numbers rub off! These ones are etched in I think.

Although it's funny, going through the sets we have (even though most are missing lol, going to have to dig for the others), I've discovered we have 2 heart metal ones. I find them annoying and useless but they have phrases on the back like dash of love, idk if thats actually one but just an example, and are heart shaped so some may say they are "cute." Then we have a few plastic sets. I've actually bought most cause we lost others. Measuring cups i bought 2 sets (one of which isnt even in there) and theres another set. Also another set of spoons. Amd 2 liquid measuring cups. Anyway, turns out all the ones I like are Oxo and all the ones i hate are Faberware! :lau i admit to buying the cheap stuff in store on impulse/need. But on the faberware, the numbers are not etched at all so id it fades, too bad for you. On the oxo, even though they are plastic, the numbers are on the back of the spoon. Not etched but raised up? idk what that's called. But they are still there. Its also the only one that the ink didn't competely fade yet and a much sturdier spoon. The measuring cups, we have had the same set for forever. Turns out it is oxo and VERY solid and sturdy. Thick, strong, hard plastic. And standard shape. The faberware? An oval shape which i hate and VERY flimsy/thin cheap plastic in comparison. I never noticed before till someone said compare. We also have a Pyrex spoon set (only can find one atm) which I think is magnetic. I love that one, very sturdy and I prefer the magnet to the weird D ring thing. But the spoon is also too shallow and it's annoying. The liquids are glass Pyrex, 2 cup, very nice.

I am hoping this set will be nice too.

I alao just bought myself a Pyrex set of glass pans with lids for like $20 or maybe less at the grocery store. Ones 8x8 one is 13x9. I couldn't find a brownie pan. I also have bought a lot of cookie sheets and they all get trashed :( my mom is a great person but a bad cook and she just uses any pan for any meal and also just puts grease, oil, etc. All over stuff. Oh and often doesn't clean them right away or at all and just puts them back in the oven like that.... GROSS! Socookie sheets, cake pans, etc. Ruined. That reminds me, I actually bought a cake pan set at Ocean State not that long ago. Dont know where that went. I think I might have to start hiding my cookware. Frustrating.

I go with metal over plastic 90% of the time.

Much sturdier but some is okay

We have a lot of stuff but as mentioned above, gets lost or ruined lol

Oh boy...

I ordered a nice digital Nikon camera for DH's big Christmas present through Amazon. I picked up his package from the Post Office today and some of the parts that were supposed to be included are not in the packaging.

I hate dealing with stuff like this because it's not just a matter of taking something back to the store...gotta go through Amazon and they contact the distributor then get back to me. Just complicates stuff. :rant

Poor DH, he is not a happy camper.
