The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

A lot of the machines now are 50 cent or $1 minimums but then they do still have a lot of 25 cent ones and 1 cent but even on some of the 1 cents the minimum bet is like 60 cents which I think is kind of deceiving....
You have to stuff in 60 pennies?? :th

and I'm sure they rig it so you LOSE.
Um, right, that is how they stay in business. I think your best actual odds are at the Black Jack table. But you have to know how to play.

I think it was all the smoke in the casino
:sick

johnny rockets
Never heard of that place

Can't exactly program a mechanical machine.
I believe they could. And the casino will "adjust" the odds of winning on any given machine at their whim. Not enough bells and sirens going off to bring in the addicted hopefuls? Make the machine pay off more often for a bit. I bet they can change them remotely as many times a day as they like now.

I know what I need to do - I'm paying for it spades right now. But this is something I have done for over 50 years. Every time I try to quit and fail, it makes me feel like I can't do anything right. No thanks....after all this time it's been done anyway.
E-cigs Blooie! Oh, right I already suggested that on Saturday :D

Nobody really wants us to quit
I DO!!!!! I :love you and would like you to stick around a bunch more years.

put a sin tax on that as a health risk for the caffeine and the litter from the cups.
And possibly in the sugar ladened ones ;) We now have sales tax on all drinks with added sweetener of any sort including artificial. Some might argue with that last part but I'm glad they included artificial. That sh1t gives me migraines and the "bottlers" might decide to replace all sugar with artificial if it wasn't taxed. Then I would have to give up my Dr. Pepper :p

But i bet they are harmful too , nobody has done studies have they?
Don't know but at least there is no tar. I think that is the primary cause of lung disease and cancer in tobacco.

I'm a firm believer that if it's going into your lungs and it's not supposed to be in there, there will be issues, regardless of what it is. It amazes me that the same people who will scream and picket and protest over minute, virtually undetectable ppms of an air pollutant don't really care what they're inhaling as long it was their choice to inhale it. And Little Diane and Pete use vapes....I still can't get the smell out of the house, and it was like walking into a fog. No, the best thing, I think, is to just stop doing any of it. But not all of us can do that. Yesterday the doctor said that the best thing I could do for my throat, sinuses and lungs was to quit. Now, I've never seen this guy before, and he was a kinda Doogy Howser fella....I have hair on my legs older than this doctor.

I looked him dead in the face and I said, "I get it. But here's the deal. I've tried, repeatedly, and failed. Most of the stop smoking aids are useless to me because of seizures. This is something I have done for almost 55 years. I know I should quit, but the reality is that I probably won't, and to look at you right now and say I can or I will would be an absolute lie. Not fair to you and not fair to me."

He looked at me thoughtfully and then said, "Okay, we've leveled with each other. So now my job becomes to help you live the best life you can with each of us knowing what the limits are. Shall we get to work?" He wasn't happy, but now he knows that if I walk into his office again and tell him I did it, he'll know I'm not peeing up his leg and telling him it's a rainstorm! If I don't quit, he needs to know that honestly in order to do his best for me, and we've got that discussion out of the way. :lau

The man in the house behind ours, comes out often to smoke. It has been and still is a very, very cold winter with bitter wind chills etc. I am guessing his wife(?) doesn't allow smoking in the house. He used to come out with his Staffordshire Terrier, ie, pitbull with some refinements. I haven't seen her in months, guessing she passed away.

She would bark furiously if I went out into my own yard. Then he would give me "death looks," because I made her bark. Some people just really tick me off.

Daughter got the Princess a record player for Christmas. Now to locate some of the old records.

Well, I think the kids motivation was when DW unpacked a box of LPs and 45s. She was talking about selling them since we didn't have anything to play them on. Cat destroyed my stereo many years ago when she got into a spraying spree. The only thing I saved were my advent speakers, which were too high for her to reach.

My dad has a bunch in the basement.

I would like to get a record player but then again I don't really want to use them and risk scratches. Most people just collect them now and bands will do all sorts of cool color variants or tour exclusive ones etc. So you can collect all the colors for an album. I never have, mostly cause it's expensive or they sold out by the time I went to buy, but it is definitely a cool thing. A lot of bands do do just one color but a lot also do multiple variants. I think one of the only ones I have multiple variants for is when my good friends released their album last month and I had preordered a package, part of which was a vinyl, and then they went on tour later that month too and had a tour exclusive vinyl. I bought it cause we're friends and I want to have both. Plus it was pretty. I like pretty ones ha I also had them sign it for when they get famous. :lau but I would have to check, I might have other albums in multiple variants. But some people legit try to get every single variant. And some bands do it for multiple albums and multiple variants each one and sometimes only at a specific place like only at a certain store, only online, only on tour etc. So it can be a challenge (and expensive) to get every one. I guess that's what collecting is though. I'm not like that though it would be cool. I actually didn't used to collect them at all and thought it was kinda stupid until last year when my friend was talking about their collection and I started buying a few and now I have a lot haha nowhere near as many as some people but yeah. There are some really pretty ones so I usually buy those or my friends bands etc.

The super small local ones usually don't have it but slightly bigger touring ones do but yeah

You know what else they have now too? Cassettes lol

I am sorry that you got sick and could not enjoy the food!

Thank you! Can eat it now at least, we brought it home

Okay, i typed this earlier and then my phone died so it saved as a draft sooo.. i ate it and it was delicious lol

X2 Sorry I totally missed that you were sick. I hate the smoke in casinos and ummm well, ummm I'm a smoker:oops:

Thanks! And it's okay! It was at the bottom.

And yeah, the smoke in there is gross!

They had non smoking areas but they were practically next to the smoking and also people walked through it to get to the other areas or would walk in the aisles outside the actual casino part so smoke was still in the air

This one casino we went to one time, the non smoking section was upstairs behins glass walls and doors so in a completely totally separate area. That was nice. Of course when you came out, you instantly smelled it and got sick lol

Whoa! Back Up! Smoking is allowed inside?

Pretty much no smoking anywhere inside in Aus now and strict rules for outside also.

Quote: Every state and territory bans smoking in enclosed public places. Indoor environments such as public transit, office buildings, shopping malls, schools and cinemas are smokefree across the country

So, no smoking near play grounds, at the bus stop, so many metres from a door way, in a park, at the football, at pubs etc etc

I used to smoke but now I have a nicotine free e-cig. E-cigs are also subject to the above restrictions.

Only in casinos! In Mass you cant smoke inside anywhere or 100 feet from doors (no one listens to that :( ) and that might only be certain businesses not statewide???

But oddly it varies depending on state. It should be federal.

Some bars you can smoke in still!!

I recently saw a band member I follow tweet how he was sick cause they played a venue in the south the night before and the merch table was in the smoking area. Or maybe the whole place allowed smoking? Then he was talking to this other guy who I guess had played the same venue before and he was like it's not worth the possible shirt sales dude and they were talking and it was basically like yeah, i thought it would be but it's not. I agree with both of them. No reason to completely make yourself sick over it. I also think that's not really fair to the bands or the guests who have to breathe that in. If we had venues like that here, I definitely would not go tocas many shows as I do. But that's just how it is in some places.

Casinos are usually run by Native America tribes(except for Nevada and New Jersey). The Casinos are considered Tribal land and do not fall under State or Federal laws. The Tribes can do a lot of things that we cannot do under Federal or State laws

Yup

Hey Blooie I do this every year, get confused!

Is yours today, your time? Tomorrow your time? The day after my time? Yesterday my time? :p :lau

Mine is tomorrow [30th] and I know we kind of celebrate at the same time. You are the 29th, which it is here today and now but I can't wish you a happy birthday yet because it is not there?

Anyone else confused now? :p

Me!

I was born on Easter Sunday 1960

Thats a nice birthday

I'm a super taster. DW is a super smellier. I can't stand the stench of smoke in the house so I smoke on the deck.

I don't understand how people can smoke in the house. I went to a friend's relative's house once and they smoked inside and it was disgusting. Technically it was on like a sun patio/porch type thing and I think they might have had a plastic curtainor something separating it but still... whole room fills with smoke cause there's no way out and it's just gross. Or smoking inside a car with no window open. That's just dangerous.

Casinos and a few other places here still allow smoking, although there are pretty strict laws for most public places. Here most of the casinos are owned by the Native Americans of that particular area, and not subject to all local laws.

Personally, it's a toss-up for me which is worse...walking into a cloud of cigarette smoke for the 15 seconds it takes to walk past someone standing outside a building, or having someone sit down behind me in a restaurant so dunked in perfume that from the second they get there my entire meal tastes like whatever they bathed in and I leave there smelling like they smelled when they walked in. I know the dangers of second-hand smoke...I get it. But for someone with asthma, or someone like Bruce's daughter who is extremely sensitive to perfumes and chemicals, that perfume cloud can be just as deadly. The only difference is while I can't -and wouldn't anyway - light up in an elevator and put someone at risk, and while I'm standing outside because it's not legal for me to smoke indoors, that fru-fru smelling person is free to wander around, stand behind me, sit in front of me, stay put, and there isn't a thing I can do about it. I agree 100% that there should be no smoking in any public area. But then to further decree that even outside is off limits is ridiculous. I know what I need to do - I'm paying for it spades right now. But this is something I have done for over 50 years. Every time I try to quit and fail, it makes me feel like I can't do anything right. No thanks....after all this time it's been done anyway.

Just me, I guess. I don't stand right in front of the doors to a business, I watch the breeze and make sure I'm away from anyone else, and I do not (nor have I ever in 54 years) stomped out or tossed a cigarette on the ground and walked away. Ma had no problem with us kids smoking, but she did have strict rules about how we did it. Probably makes no sense in this day and age, but I do get just a little tired of being the enemy and pariah while "they" criticize me and then single me out for a tax hit every time they need more money. Shoot, if all of us smokers quit tomorrow, like everyone claims we just have to do, states would be broke in a year. Nobody really wants us to quit - they need us and they feel bigger and smarter making us feel smaller. Lots of folks won't drink anything but Starbucks - put a sin tax on that as a health risk for the caffeine and the litter from the cups. Others will only drink bottled water...add an additional tax to each bottle because bottled water a convenience. If someone has a habit of any kind, throw some sin taxes on that instead of always slapping me. I punish myself quite enough...I don't need any help. A carton of smokes here in town costs around $65.00. On board the ship, while we are sailing in a duty free zone and can buy them without all the additional state and local taxes added, that same carton is $30.00.

Okay, off my soapbox. Sorry.

Agreed, very well said Blooie.

Although that said, I have asthma and am pretty sensitive to smells but oddly I've never had that problem. Maybe not that many people wear perfume around here??? But I usually can't walk in a candle or perfume store or sniff any at stores and I can't usually have Febreeze or anything but those also have strong chemicals

ROFL ... When? Today? Tomorrow? Yesterday?

OK, I will stop now for two reasons .. my head hurts and I do not have a hankering for a frozen Blooie. I would, however, welcome some ice or snow or anything else cooling ;)

You can have some of our cooling. 9 degrees now. Getting colder

You have to stuff in 60 pennies?? :th

Nah, I usually just put in a 5, 10, or 20. I know, horrible. They don't even take change though i don't think.

Very true! No money in letting everyone win. I like black jack but not sure I would like it at a casino. My brother likes roulette. Says he has a strategy for winning. He does pretty well, kept getting up over $100 at least twice, I think maybe was in like the $140s then keeps playing and loses it all ha he was on the digital one but someone real was really spinning a wheel so not completely digital. Most of the others had like a $25 minimum.

I feel the same way! I ended up actually getting sick back at the hotel

I think it's delicious but it's sort of like fast food-ish so not like super gourmet or anything but good. It's like a diner the way it's designed and decorated and they have a counter too. It's mostly a burger and milkshake place but they do have some other stuff too. The milkshakes are delicious haha i don't think they have too many in New England. I know they have one at Logan Airport and one at Mohegan Sun (where we were) and I'm not sure where else. I think maybe one of the malls around here.

I never thought of that but you are probably right or they maybe preprogram it into the algorithm.

Sounds like a great doctor! Best to be honest.

Don't think i could ever do that but wish i could.

Straight forward, that is our Blooie! Yep, best that you both understand each other.

New tack:
I think I can, I think I can, I think I can ;)

Bad time of year to try and clear stink out of the house!! Next visit tell them what I told my mother. No one, no matter how much I love them, smokes in my house.

They didn't smoke...they used their flavored, extra fancy, better-for-you vapes. Those things stink! But they did use the exhaust fan and stand right in front of it. :idunno

I think bruces motto should apply to vapes too. Its still a stinky fog like substance

The man in the house behind ours, comes out often to smoke. Wow people are annoying. :/

My dad smokes a lpt and goes out quite a bit

I don't want vaping in the house either! Not breathing that crap!

Yup!!

We have two passengers on the senior bus(also for disabled, of any age) that are serious chain smokers. They puff away outside waiting for bus pickup. Then get on bus(tossing cig at last second) the smell is all over their clothes etc.

As a non-smoker, it bothers my eyes and throat instantly. We don't have large buses so everyone is pretty much cheek to cheek. It's freezing outside so we can't open the windows.

Then we get one biddy that lives with garlic, she must chug it for breakfast. As soon as she hops on the bus, everyone's sinus trouble clears up. But I get a headache from the strong vapors.

Aw I'm sorry. That's awful!
