The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

They don't live, they survive. I've lived in Houston and Dallas, absolutely hateded it but had to for a short while....I've for the most part have lived in the countryside. I could not live in the city...got to have peace and quite, hear the coyote howling, birds singing and nights so quite, it's deafing! :D

I spent 20 years in the DC metro area..... I can't tell you how good it is to be here...

Meanwhile.... we have less than a couple dozen articles that need review and I'm outta gas...

go here and the last one to complete an article can tell nifty to update his query... I'm not far from the ether based easy chair....

I'm going to go on a rant here, so consider yourselves forewarned...
I drove through the reservation that is on my eastern property line. They've been having a lot of utility type digging going on lately. I was drooling over the beautiful black earth that was there (everywhere around here is mostly clay).

Anyhow, I was at the laundry mat recently and this woman and I started talking. Turns out she lives on the reservation, so I asked her if they were getting new sewage or something. She told me that the government is putting in water lines to bring in city water. Around here, potable water is easy to find with fairly shallow wells, so it seems pretty silly to me.

Ok...now for the real rant...
There are people living in remote areas, where the government has forced them to live, aka reservations. These people are unable to get any kind of decent water. They're all either really sick, for many generations, or dying. They have been bringing this issue to the government for decades. So what does the government do? They give potable water to the wealthy nations, who already have decent water, and don't help those that need it!?! That way they can say that they have helped. I'm sorry, but that just isn't right.

Every time I hear about how horribly our first nations have been treated, I'm so ashamed to be white.

Evening all :frow

My Grandmother's grandmother was 100% Cherokee... Her ancestors escaped the trail of tears and found a white family willing to help them move back into society without being killed. I have a close friend that is soux and how the "government" treats them is horrendous. My DNA markers don't show any native american markers, but I view that as happenstance... The way our Native American's are treated on reservations is just deplorable... End Rant.

I still have a cookie jar full of treats or my avatar.... Never cleaned it out after she passed.

I lived in the DC metro area for 20 years... I love my peace these days.

It really is horrible! And the whole Flint thing is/was a disaster too. And the rampant alcoholism and poverty on the reservations is so sad. That's part of why I somewhat have an issue with when everybody wants to donate to Africa or South America or some foreign country, the ads on TV and also at religious events sponsoring kids, when there is such poverty and so many starving and suffering kids here. But idk. I'm always conflicted because everyone deserves help and seeing any babies suffer is terribly sad and some countries still have slavery and that stuff and/or no schools so I do understand supporting and getting kids out of those situations but why can't we do both? It seems like people ONLY help those kids when there is so much suffering here. Of course, that's probably not true, I am sure there are people helping these kids, but it's not nearly as proportionate. It's just sad. And maddening. Sorry, rant over lol

And aw that's sad yet also kinda cute. Do you have another dog?

I'm going to post here... They were fantastic....
Grand daughter looked at the platter DW put in front of her and just said thank you for the nummies...

You don't have to leave the USA to go to a 3rd world country, just visit a reservation.
