I agree.sounds like a cicada to me
Whoa! Looks like it did you a favor with that tree, plenty rotted inside.Pictures from last nights storm....
Is Evan's tuba afraid to sleep there? They could always use your house as a storm shelter.I'd put up Motel 5-1/2 for them but after last week's storm Tam is too scared to sleep out there in a pop up camper.
I love the way the ears are coloured!
I think it’s a cicada as others said...it was loud. What's your dog going after DMC?
It didn’t look rotten from the outside.I agree.

Lets hope not Blooie!Looks like a doozy of a storm, DMC!! Cleanup is never fun, especially when you get it all done and then BAM - there's another one coming. <sigh>
Glad you got your internet problem squared away, Debby - a day without you is like a day without sunshine!
EVAN IS HOME!!! Seems like every summer when he goes back to South Dakota the time he's gone gets longer and longer. Kinda tough right now finding room for all Tam's stuff, his suitcases, and his TUBA....yes, tuba...plus sleeping space for them. I'd put up Motel 5-1/2 for them but after last week's storm Tam is too scared to sleep out there in a pop up camper.
Thanks, me too.I love the way the ears are coloured!
That was my point! Looks like a big healthy tree on the outside, not good at all on the inside. Glad it didn't land on anything. It didn’t look rotten from the outside.
Thanks, me too. If it had gone the other direction it would have got my clothesline. That was my point! Looks like a big healthy tree on the outside, not good at all on the inside. Glad it didn't land on anything.

Oh, yes! Evan's tuba is terrified of storms, the dark, bugs....all kinds of things like that. And when that tuba gets scared, the sounds it can make are horrifying! Actually no amount of persuasion is going to get Tam out in the camper, and Ken refuses to set it up just to hold luggage. But it's only for a couple of weeks, he and I will be at Grand Lodge in Gillette for 4 days of that, so we'll cope. She'd do it for me, and besides then we don't have to worry about Fiona, either.
We've had trees like that....took a huge limb off one a couple of years ago - that thing was the size of an entire tree - and it was hollow as can be inside. In fact, we had the tree guys cut it in half across, then cut one half across lengthwise and used half of that in the run as a panic room for the chicks. 18 chicks fit under there! The other half of section served the same propose outside the chicken run, and the last whole piece that we left intact is sitting in front of the coop. The chickens liked to go inside that log to look for bugs. This is that piece of the limb:
