The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Checking out their new place :D dog 1 (can DD1 and DD2 also stand for dear dog 1 & 2?) was at training camp so they took the little one to the camp

And thanks for the vocab lesson! Definitely want to make sure we are saying the right thing! Will pass it on so they don't stick out like a sore thumb :p
They will stick out like a sore thumb no matter what they call the camp. Those MA plates are a dead giveaway. Tell them to slow down, nothing needs to be done in a hurry. The NEK isn't Boston or any other part of MA. Be respectful of the local pace and not be pushy Massholes ;)

DD1 & 2 is OK with context, could be a bit confusing for new people who don't know you and your family dynamics :D

I should add that Darth lives in the tree closest to the pickup. :lau
Is Darth still there? I thought you said he may have left.

Can't figure out how to download the pictures off the site so just posting the listing... don't stalk them :lau

Gonna stalk them for sure! :gigOK, not. If they haven't gone, they should check out the Fairbanks Museum and Planetarium in St. Johnsbury just a few miles to their west.

Not sure I would store wood that close to that stove. But then I likely wouldn't put my lawnmower in the dining area either ;)

Guess they would be skiing at Burke, it isn't too far north. Jay would be a LONG way but the NEK is a big area so Jay Peak is close to SOME parts of the Kingdom.

i have to admit, the one who did the climbing and cutting was either very brave or crazy. probably both :)
That is how it was done before cherry pickers! The pickers are faster and the cranes can lift off big chunks but there still has to be a guy in the tree cutting.

The walls are plaster and lathe. It would be extremely difficult to patch with drywall seamlessly.
Lath (not lathe, that is a woodworking tool ;)) and plaster would be pretty easy to patch up, especially if the lath was carefully removed and reused. You can bevel the plaster in the "not removed" areas and blend the new plaster right into it. Can't really feather in butt end drywall joints without a hump. If your friend is good at drywall taping, he can put plaster on lath, it isn't really much different than mudding drywall joints.

I love the look of plaster walls. I may just put a very thin coating of drywall mud on the whole wall to try and achieve the look.
A well done plaster wall wouldn't look a lot different than drywall, flatter in some respects since if there are drywall butt joints there will be a hump where the tape is and that includes all inside corners. You can't avoid that without mudding the entire wall, then you are basically plastering the drywall anyway. I think it takes special genetics to be good at lath and plaster though ;)

Gonna be a big mess ripping all that out. BUT, I would guess it cracked a bunch when the house was moved. The newspaper insulation would be a bigger reason to rip it all down, I think that would be hard to remove. But if it could be done you could rewire and then have the walls foam insulated. No plumbing on outside walls. No need to remove the knob and tube, just run new wire.

So far it looks slower, but even now we’re having to add things to the calendar that weren’t on there before. We were supposed to have nothing from Friday when Ken gets home from Rock Springs until Monday when we head out again for 5 days. But we suddenly have a Job’s Daughters function in Gillette on Saturday, so that blows the weekend off out of the water.
How are you feeling Blooie?

@bruceha2000 Won’t know for sure if he is or not until the first good snow. The wind and hail stripped a lot of bark from his tree.

@CapricornFarm Discouraged. I thought I’d be a lot better by now but the pain is still with me. It radiates down my fanny cheek and into my thigh. Doc says that’s because it’s pinching my Sciatic nerve. I used to kind of roll my eyes at folks who said they had sciatica.... sounded kinda like those old “rhumatiz” complaints. But both are very real, and I’m a little ashamed of myself for that now. Sitting is the worst - standing or laying down not quite so bad. It’s been over a week, almost 2 weeks since I injured it and I thought it would be healed by now. But it could always be worse - I could be going through what you and Sean are so I’ll count my blessings and try to be patient. Thanks for asking.

I am pretty much all better now! I took the last few sutures out today. Hope you start to feel improvement every day!

Lol I'll be sure to mention it :P though they're pretty laid back anyways, he's a geologist and they both love skiing, hiking/backpacking, mountain biking/regular biking (she got him into biking and he does it for her, not sure he's really as passionate about it as her but he does it, and her and her dad are really into it), kayaking, boating, etc. So long story short, big nature people so I'm pretty sure they'll fit in better up there than here  but I don't think they'll be moving there permanently because he works on the Cape or at least not for a while if they do. They may even buy some place else eventually. Who knows for sure. But I don't think they're in too big of a hurry :)

And LOL true! I'll just stick to Libby and Franklin :lau although I could always do FN1 and FN2. Fur niece/nephew :lau names are easier lol

I'm sure they'd welcome visitors! Especially awesome, knowledgeable ones like yourself.

I'll be sure to tell them to visit that! It sounds awesome!

Yeah, that's a bit of an unconventional setup! :lau I'm sure they'll move both and/or build a shed or something.

I think it is fairly close to Cannon, right? They might do that too. They love Cannon and he sometimes teaches there.

Happy Halloween!
