in terms of shape think platypus. I've been through all the pictures of native TN birds and it's not in there. So I'm guessing it's migratory.The only other bird I can think of with a long curved bill is a curlew, it wasn't an Avocet, as in the pics, so idk.

I've scoured the internet until my eyes hurt and can't find anything like it, also there only appears to be one.Well the only thing I know of that has a duckbilled or spoonbilled appearance and is small like you say, is an Asiatic species. The spoonbilled sandpiper. Here's some pics!
