The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Only dogs I had were hunters or working dogs.

We don’t hunt so all ours were pets but my grandpa had a lot of different hunting dogs over the years. I will have to find out if they kept the dew claws on theirs or removed them. Not that it mattered much but I am just curious. They had a lot of different hunting dogs, all breeds.

We have had a Golden (barely remember him, I was still really little when he died), a Lab, and a Lab/Pyrenees, and DB and FSIL have theirs, Pyrenees/Lab/Boxer/unknown, and “Pyrenees/Collie” (doing DNA test on him soon). Gator (Pyrenees/Lab) and Libby (Pyrenees/Lab/Boxer) have their dew claws. Franklin (pyrenees collie) I think does too but idk, I need to check. I think Bailey (Lab) and Higgins (Golden) did not.

But all ours are pets. Bailey was very active and Libby is so far too but she is also only a year old. Gator and Franklin are much more mellow and laidback, even lazy.

Your biscuit/cookie dessert is a lot like one I've made in the past with chocolate wafer cookies and whipping cream. No sherry was involved though.
I make a kalhua torte similarly.
Mix equal parts kalhua and milk. Dip the hardest, cheapest store bought chocolate chip cookies you can find (trust me, it doesn't work as well with nicer cookies) into the kalhua milk. Layer in a springform pan. Make some whipped cream flavoured with some instant coffee and spread some one top of the cookies. Continue layering until the pan is full. This also tastes better if it's made the day before.

We just got finished watching the LSU and UCF game boy was it really a nail-biter but LSU pulled it out! @007Sean looks like A&M skunked NC pretty bad yesterday too. Buckeyes are getting ready to start at the Rose bowl...even tho' I am an alum and worked there I probably won't watch it. One game a day is all I can take.
You went to OSU?
I used to live south of there in a town called Springfield (half way between Dayton and Columbus).
I'm actually looking at planting a buckeye tree this year.

Is it still like that? I have always thought it would be cool to have a show dog but it is so political from what I hear that idk
Yep, ours were the very large Weimer's not like the ones you see now days. They reduced the size for show to 28" back in the mid 70's. Our Champion Weimer was 33" at the shoulder, so we could no longer show him but there isn't a size limit on field trial.

Wow that’s ridiculous they changed it so much!! I bet they are even smaller now. Labs seem to have gotten smaller and smaller in recent years too.

Yeah, they changed for 'rabbit hutch' dwellers. As far as I'm concerned they ruined the breed by breeding for apartment size.

Yeah, I find AKC tends to ruin a lot of breeds :(

People probably couldn’t handle such a big dog and wanted a dog better suited for a pet or more controllable or something.
