The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

I can darn sure find out, Debby!!

Decided to take an “us” day today. We’re going through Cody now and I’m taking a video from one end of town to the other. I’ll post them when we get home. Got Fee with us and we’re gonna run up the North Fork for some photos. The Big Horn Sheep and elk are supposed to be all over the place and the bears are waking up, so we thought we’d pack a lunch, grab the cameras, and do some exploring.

Sounds like a fun day!!

Be careful with dem Bears Blooie. Fiona is a wolf hound not a bear hound.

:lau true!! Although oddly, the bear dogs are much smaller... I would think Fiona would have a much better chance.

This is an interesting article.

Got some planting stuff yesterday. Some seed starting trays, they were only $5 with the soil already in them (they had other ones, no soil, $5 or even $7 so I figured these were a much better deal) AND they had a sale going on if you are on their email list/a part of their little rewards program, which I am, so I got $1 off so they were only $4 each which I thought was a great deal. The limit was only 2 per household but they’re 36 hole trays each so that should be plenty. Then I also got a little thing of seed starter soil for $2 just in case I need more space or trays. I have used their potting soil before but never knew they had seed starter, might be new, idk, but their regular soil is very good. Also got those little pellets which were a little expensive, like $1.60, but I figure I can put them in egg cartons or little cups, and have little individual seed trays in case I need more room ha

But the REALLY exciting part is I got a bunch of blueberry plants and grapes!! :D they also had fruit trees but I didn’t get any. Might go back lol I think the fruit trees were like $17.99 which I thought was a pretty good deal given they were pretty huge but they only had 3 types of fruit, one variety each, and I know you usually need two varieties of each for pollination so I decided against it. They had apples, peaches, and one other kind that I forget. And then inside they had all the blueberries and grapes as well as raspberries, strawberries, etc. they have all kinds of plants. But anyways, got 3 different kinds of blueberries and two grapes. I hope it is okay to plant now. I read you are supposed to plant before they come out of dormancy but hopefully it will be okay. I figured I better get them now while they are green and healthy before they die from being inside. We have an area in the back where there was a wild blueberry bush we just took out so we will put them there. Very acidic and well draining too. And the grapes I am going to put next to the chicken run for shade for them and grapes for them. They love grapes. These plants were only $6.99 each and they look very healthy so I thought it was a good deal.

This store has everything, not just plants haha got some bird seed for cheap too and some potato chips, farrow, a few various other things. They have really good organic, healthy food too for cheap.

I got Blue Ray, Blue Crop, and Jersey for blueberries (one each of all they had) and then for grapes, one red and one green, the red one is Catawba and the green one is Himrod. I don’t know much about grapes but I think the Jersey blueberry is supposed to be a good kind??

:celebrate Good MORNING! This is your Cowley AM news.....if we can’t provide the real deal, we’ll make it up to start your day off right!

Town shop employees yesterday worked round the clock - well, from 2 in the afternoon until 6 last evening anyway - trying to get the skeeter control truck’s sprayer working correctly. Seems the doohickey that disburses the spray evenly has gone missing, and Search and Rescue has sent out search parties, to no avail. Several alternative parts were tried in the sprayer, including the little thingamajig from a Windex bottle. Although it fit, a trial run showed that it would only aim the spray at windows of the homes it passed as it went down the street. The next attempt was the sprayer thingy from a can of polish remover. We haven’t seen the Debowskies since. This sprayer is essential to the town of Cowley and the mayor is asking that all residents check under any remaining snow piles to see if it might simply be buried, along with the soda cans and candy wrappers that make their annual spring appearance as the snow melts.
Remember, this sprayer is a vital part of the night life in Cowley, as evidenced by the number of good citizens who sit out on their porches on Tuesday and Friday nights to watch Dexter spray for skeeters. We cannot turn the Skeeter Spraying into a festival to attract tourists if we can’t control the skeeters or the sprayer.

In other news, the Crosby’s ran their twice-a-year cattle parade down Main Street a couple of weeks ago. There is still some fertilizer available for pickup at no charge, if citizens would like to help themselves. If they opt for the supply at the curbs, a simple pickup truck and a shovel will be all each person needs. For the fertilizer left in the street itself, they may need an ice chipper as well...it’s pretty well flattened by now. Our on-the-scene reporter has video of the event, to be shown at the end of this broadcast.

In sports, nothing happened.

Our weather for the weekend promises to be just beaut-ee-ful, and we all know about weather’s promises in Wyoming. So this reporter urges folks to make an early trip to the Red Apple grocery store, where you’ll find everything under one roof except the prices, which are through the roof. If it’s a sunny 50 degrees this weekend, with winds calm at 60, there will likely be a run on meats and deli salads as the populace fires up their grills and smokers. If it’s snowy and 10 degrees, with winds calm at 60, they’ll be looking for supplies to survive. Either way, a weekend run on the grocery store is always an accurate prediction.

And that’s the morning news from Cowley, where “Welcome to Cowley, Wyoming” and “Now Leaving Cowley, Wyoming” are painted on the same sign.....and on the same side. Proudly sponsored by the Cowley Merc, where you can fill up your car and yourself with gas in one stop, by the Waterhole Bar, which we’re sure will re-open before the end of the decade, and by the Cowley Post Office, whose motto is “Don’t worry, you’ll get it eventually.” Have a doggone good day, and here’s that video for you.

That was awesome as always. Great video!
That was just at the end, Debby! They’d been going through on Main Street for quite some time before I got to the intersection. How’s the tooth? I feel kinda bad that you are hurting and disliking Wyoming, but once you get to Casper where there more amenities you’ll be happier! :hugs You are pretty isolated down your way, and this winter has been brutal along I-80. Hang in there, my friend!
x’s 2!

Sean thank you again!! That was very very helpful. Although I must say.... all that math was confusing lol I thought you just like added to the number? Like from to get from 68 to 75 or 75-68 is 7 percent it was that far off??? I have bookmarked that post so I can remember the math but I thought it was much simpler calculations.

And I’ve had the incubator running since Tuesday but I can’t seem to get the temp to stay the same
Kelsey, it is a simple % difference calculation....nothing to it.

Probably not but I haven’t looked at any numbers in a very long time :lau  plus I saw some post that had way less steps, they were just like oh just add/subtract it from 75, but of course that is probably nowhere near accurate. I would rather be accurate. I am sure it is probably actually way easy. But I guess part of it is the numbers are different than added/subtracted and it’s really throwing me off and I can’t figure out why it is done that way versus adding/subtracting?? I am probably overthinking it lol just want to understand why it’s done that way and be able to do it right so I don’t accidentally kill any chicks or quail. Cause if this is more accurate, I want to do it the more accurate way.

Since Hey 310 is a major traffic artery, and in town the highway is also Main Street, semis hate getting caught behind it! :lau
Kids could make some easy money with coffee and donuts and the like to the trapped truckers.

Seems like it would be a bit early to take them out to the pasture. Things must green up way earlier there than here. We've got another month before the grasses start growing.

Another year then hopefully Cody, right? Lots of doctors, dentists, an urgent care clinic and a really good hospital there!
And all those wanna be but not quite utra rich people!

since he is staying on as Grand Recorder, plus Grand Secretary of York Rite Council and Chapter for one more year, our schedule will slow down some but not stop.
The Lady of the GR and the Lady of the GS has to travel and schmooze??

DMC, how are you girlie? Since your new job we don't see you much, guess you're busy & probably tired. I know the first day was rough, hope it's gotten easier with each day.:hugs

I am exhausted today lol worked hard for like 3 hours straight this afternoon and I am not used to that  I do little stuff here and there or sometimes go outside for a while doing small stuff but the stuff I was doing today was exhausting work. And it was just me because my dad was taking a nap and I didn’t know I was going to do all this exhausting stuff. Just kind of impulsively decided to lol I had a big huge post typed up but decided that pictures are a lot easier so just went out and took some instead. First time I don’t have much to say..... I know, I know, ME!? Kelsey!? Not talking!? :th

But don’t call an ambulance. :lau idk, just exhausted and pictures are easier lol but will briefly explain, flipped a bunch of dirt in the run and my garden with the compost rake cause it was all hard packed and I want it... not hard packed, idk, and garden needs tilling so just did some since I was doing chicken run. After rain yesterday, run was soft and squishy/sinking, so figured that made easier work for me and did it now. Also flipped a bit of the compost pile too and raked up around it what had spread out. Raked up along both long sides of run, pulled stuff from next to back long side (including that massive roll of HC and some tools), and put wire down on ground. Tomorrow I will put the HC up but I didn’t know where the wire cutters were and didn’t want to wake my dad plus it was getting dark. Oh and also before my 3 hour work spree, I filled the front bird feeders, collected eggs, and let chickens out around 2. Went to do the hard work like 3:30, was out probably 2 1/2, 3 hours. Odd thing is I was up early today but slow moving.

Anyhow, pictures. And also, I think that is the briefest I have ever taken to explain anything.... :lau again, don’t worry or call anyone. :lau

Oh and I still haven’t started my seeds yet but I am going to go do that right now while I wait for my dad to get back with dinner, won’t take long since those trays already have soil in them. I want to do it now because I have been meaning to for like 3 days but especially since I got the trays yesterday and I refuse to put it off any longer. The eggplant is already a little late since that needs so much time to get started/encouraged to come to life and then get to a good transplant size so at this rate, I own’t be able to plant it, so NEED to plant today, no more putting off, and the tomatoes and peppers are getting pretty close too. So even though I’m exhausted, gonna plant seeds tonight and not put it off any longer. Plus that’s a fairly simple, easy task anyway, I think I can handle it LOL

Got plenty of them right here on BYC! Are you offering lessons? :lau And that actually sounds kind of good ha

:lau what other cool stuff don’t I know?
Turkey burgers are great! You take left over turkey and dice it up. You heat up cream of chicken soup, leaving it pretty thick and put in the turkey. Heat well, spoon some onto a warm hamburger bun. Enjoy!
