The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Good morning, everyone! Last load of laundry is in and ready to pack when it comes out of the dryer, dusting is done, ran the robot over the floors, got burger out of the freezer to thaw for dinner (I can't wait to see what it grows up to be!) and the kitchen cleaned up after Ken "fixed" us breakfast. Yeah, when he's in the kitchen I end up fixing his messes.

So now some photos of Fee's first day out exploring. Don't expect much, as I said we didn't take her off the leash, but she loved every minute of it. Well, almost every minute - she wasn't real happy when she stuck her paws out of the back hatch just as it was about to close completely. She was laying down as the power hatch came down, and at the last second gave a big stretch. But the door did as it's designed to do and as soon as it made the slightest contact with an object (her feet) it immediately stopped and opened back up. So there was just a minor yelp from her and she was fine. But the next time she huddled way up against the back of the seat and stayed there. When I put her in I always tell her to "sit" and "wait", but Ken didn't do that - just opened the door and once she jumped in he hit the button. He knows better now, and so does she!

Anyway, some photos! There's no order to them, just random shots of the scenery, a buffalo, some Big Horn Sheep (and Fee starting at them from the side window and then the back window as we drove away) and Fee. I'll thumbnail them because there's so many. I love the one where she's got her head down trying desperately to reach that enticing elk poop right in front of her, at the side of the road! Ken didn't find it amusing. Remember that all of these photos were taken very close to Cody - I think the elk were about 10 miles from town and the sheep probably 15 or 20. The canyon of the North Fork is one of my very favorite places!

Beautiful pictures, Blooie!! I need to go out there sometime. DB & FSIL are thinking of going out that way for their honeymoon. Thinking Yellowstone, Wyoming, Montana, somewhere out there. Or like between yellowstone and glacier. They originally weren’t going to do one and were just going to go to the cabin to save money but now she’s had like a stressful past few weeks at work and plus they go to the cabin so much, it’s not exciting or fun anymore, so now she’s like we’re going on a real vacation lol but she knows he could never sit on a beach somewhere, she claims he is physically incapable of relaxing lol, so it’s a compromise. Cause she does like outdoorsy stuff anyway. She originally thought maybe they’d do kind of a road trip, drive around to different sites and/or see stuff, do that scenic highway that goes into Canada and stuff, but now she’s not sure she wants to drive all around, seems like kind of a lot of work for a vacation/honeymoon, so now she thinks she wants to stay in one spot instead, like at one of those nice all inclusive resorts or something. Somewhere that has a spa and fun, feminine vacationy stuff, as well as hiking/outdoorsy stuff so he is happy too and doesn’t go out of his mind just sitting on a beach somewhere LOL

Anyway, sorry, not sure what the point of that was, just reminded me of it I guess.

Fee is gorgeous and so big now and that scenery is gorgeous too.

OK, got it, the bags need water added. I was thinking of those disc like things for soaking in a tray of water.

I know someone whose nose would have appreciated that feature.

I think there is some false advertising there on Ken's jacket, I'm pretty sure you were still in Wyoming ;)

Blooie awesome pictures

DMC Best of luck with the water/snow melt :fl

KD I got my seeds finally started today, the pellets gave me fits too. There's a top and a bottom apparently, I did better with the second tray. The bottom is completely flat and sometimes you can see where it was pressed.

Afternoon everyone:frow

Sorry to both of you for the confusion, I do have some of those discs too, but was trying to use the trays with the loose mix in it. Didn’t work so well at first. Although now it’s absorbed but now I’m paranoid to use the tray I put soap in so now I might not. Idk. Also now I have some other trays with soil/compost/good stuff from the garden in some other trays that are having trouble absorbing too so I have come to the conclusion that maybe I just put too much water in stuff.... maybe it is me and not the material lol and I am going to try a few of the pellets, they expanded pretty quickly and easily, but I find sometimes the plants get like rootbound in them. Idk. Going to try again.

This is how the first tray looks now, looking better. And I have some new ideas I’m trying.

The cups and egg cartons are filled with material from the garden. I am going to get some more trays now (thought we had more but most are totally wrecked, these were the only good ones) and try the little bag of seed starting mix I got. Hopefully one of these will work and my plants will sprout.

I'm guessing they aren't planning to take a guest with them ;)

You need to make a road trip Becca! View attachment 1712895

Oh boy! That sounds like an invite! :gig

Of course it is! You can swing by here and pick me up and we'll go up to see @Blooie

You're on! Got the perfect car for it too!

Can Ursa come along for the ride? She might enjoy meeting Fiona

I smell trouble brewing if this happens!

Bring it ON!!

Thanks Bob!

We’ve had flood warnings for a few days. We get thru the next couple days it should get better. It’s been a very long winter!

Yes, it has. It seems like it’s bedn one for the record books all over the nation. Debby has really been nailed in her area - storm after storm, interstate closed more than its been open, and Sinclair and Rawlins jammed with trucks and cars that hit the area where the closures usually were. I think she needs a break, too! Up here we haven’t had nearly enough snow. Feast or famine.

I'm guessing they aren't planning to take a guest with them ;)

I doubt it! Unless I crash it :lau but I won’t lol but not to worry, I’ll get out there eventually!! Maybe even before them, idk. The wedding isn’t until September and I didn’t end up going to Arizona so I have the money saved on that to spend elsewhere.

@Bamabexchicks I need some cockatiel advice (does my memory serve me right that you had them?). The daddy bird has started plucking the babies heads. He's following the hen around, sticking to her like glue, so I'm sure he wants her to get laying again, but she's having none of it (she attacks him like she did yesterday over the popcorn, telling him in no uncertain terms to back off)! Should I cage him up and leave their Mum to finish raising them? We can keep him in the aviary in a small cage and let him out for some exercise while we have the babies inside, and when we move (we'll probably move them at the weekend) there will be 2 aviaries so he can go into one and Mum and the babies can go in the other.

Today the older one is showing pearling in its wings! I'm thrilled to have 2 pearly babies. I'll take some photos a bit later.

@JaeG
Your instincts are great, I would say definitely pull the male out if he is plucking the babies. He could denude them severely. They are old enough that you could start supplementing them with a less soupy hand feeding formula in a dish if she doesn't seem to be keeping up with them. Give it a few days with him separated then let him back around them with you observing. It may be that you just need to break his habit and he may stop plucking.

They are gorgeous babies! You are doing great.
