sharron :hugssorry you have so much on your plate to deal with. Maybe "smaller" plates would be better.
My father had dementia and did some really dangerous things but,the worse he got the quieter and more gentle he was. Before he went into a nursing home, he forgot who I was but, was very sweet to me. He had hated me most of his life. He thought my brother was HIS brother and my son as well. He didn't remember mom or being married. She had died several years before him so at least it didn't hurt her feelings.

He was a handful in the nursing home- visiting other patient's rooms and taking anything that caught his eye. When the patients were given a cookie, he had mega tantrums
because he wanted more.

He fell a lot so he ended up in a wheelchair, no help there. He was not supposed to try and get up without a nurse. You can imagine how well that went over. Then he had many more seizures than he did when he was home. I could go on and on but, the phone was always ringing to announce he fell again or was in the hospital with pneumonia
again.

At least twice the calls were to say he was very ill and should get last rites, etc. Then he would miraculously be well, or repeat the saga. It didn't stop until IT Stopped. Was quite a shock to us because we thought he would bounce back again. He was 90.

It took me a full year till I felt safe undoing some very dangerous wiring, etc. he had done at home. GOt rid of all his chemical things that he would dabble with. His bedroom has been kept the same. I can say I had nightmares for a long time about his coming "back" to kill me. But, "we don't need to go there ".
already use small plates dd:lau i don't have to deal with much anymore since i put her into the home, its just guilt , the person shes become just isn't my sister and that makes it harder for me to want to go visit, but i do
you had it much, much harder , my daddy always loved me and altho i didn't realize it at the time, he spoiled me, daddy never whipped me and believe me, he had the temper to do so but i was his baby, my oldest sister was 23 years older than me and the oldest brother 19 years older, shirley is 13 yrs older and next brother is 9 years older, maybe thats why i was his baby plus he quit drinking when i was about 8 , shirley was terrified of him

its hard isn't it, altho my sister isn't mentally handicapped, she does have dementia, before i placed her, she would go to bed and not get up except to drink some water or go to the bathroom(that got worse, wore diapers and then would get up), she wanted to die, i hear her talking to herself asking God to please let her die. i didn't push her to eat the first time until she went a week , her room smelt terrible so i made her get up, go to the table, fixed her chicken noodle soup and made her eat a cup while i cleaned and washed her bed clothes and other clothes, after that it was a fight everytime, she wouldn't eat.
i looked at several places, a lot of them couldn't afford but this one isn't top notch but the staff is kind to her and puts up with her temper tantrums, talking her into a better mood.
maybe you can try to find another place altho i know its hard to find a good one that affordable:hugs
forgot to say, she will be 82 this coming sept
Oh wow! You have been wonderful. :hugsMy husband was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Dementia .. a year ago Feb. He's declined some since. Only 71, so, a bit early. I could tell a good year before he was diagnosed. He's still considered early stage. Finding these words, or, to finish a sentence..or, to follow directions with more than one step. I have to be careful with that latter one, make sure I explain one thing with only one direction. Make sense? A lot of notes going on, he knows where to look for reminders. I am getting pretty good at figuring out how he wants to finish a sentence. ;) . I will let him try for a bit, but not too long. He looks at me so sad at times when he just can't get the right words out. Often times, very often, he now substitutes words..wrong words, but like I said, I figure it out.. pretty often. He had a mini stroke, not sure when...they just saw that he'd had a stroke on a MRI. ....Took my sister out to shop for clothes today. New wardrobe. She's lost sooo much weight since she got real sick. Oh, I don't have to worry about cost in the homes. She has good ins. Whew! ....You were talking about Keto . I think I mentioned, I've been doing it since last August. I am down! Maybe you can share some recipes. I am missing bread pretty bad.

to be honest i get most of my recipes on facebook, they have lots of groups with keto recipes but the one i like best is dr.ken berrys patron/supporter but you have to be a patron to see it, but there sooooo many keto groups with recipes, you just have to look and see
the read is a 90 second microwave bread, some of the people have website and i can't remember whose's it was on but its
3 tbs almond flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
2 tbs melted butter
1 egg
1)melt butter in bowl
2)mix almond flour, egg, baking powder, any seasoning you want & whisk together with butter
3)dump into the sandwich container for bread shape (get a sandwich container and cut the top off, i got mine from ebay and its microwave proof for that little bit) for bread shape
4)cook in microwave 90 seconds
5)take out of microwave & cool 20 seconds
6)cut bread in half and fill with whatever you want like making a sandwich
its best toasted before using as its super soft and squishy after cooking ( i toast it in a no stick frying pan and press down with spatula )
don't grease the container, has enough butter in it
i usually make two when i want to make a cheese sandwich or ham sandwich or tuna fish
even husband says its not bad
so far this is the best

Look..I've been a member for 89 years! :jumpy
:lau Well, if you've been a member for 9, you've also been one for 8 and 7 and .....
Looks like the 9 got put up a couple of days early. Wonder how long the 8 will stick around.

We are in the 12-20” range for snow on Thursday :he The yard is finally getting decent.
:sick

Most of our snow melted, got some sleet today. Might get 1/2" of snow overnight. No idea when the ground will thaw and dry. Not holding my breath.

Border Collies! I had one for a short time this year. That was one of the smartest, easiest dogs I've ever trained. They not only want to please, but those dogs crave more. You can see it in their eyes..asking..what next? Most of these dogs have so much of the herding instinct in them that they can't stop at herding... everything. My poor Schnauzer was getting the flesh ripped from him in their so called play . Some folks can have border Collies with other dogs and do fine. This boy had to go to a home with no other dogs. He just couldn't help himself. Talked with my vet about him. Our vet has them..he has cattle. That works! He says those dogs would herd no matter how tired, and, at times once they got the cattle up to the enclosure, some of the dogs had to be pulled off of them. It's in their blood to herd. If you want one for a pet, be aware that you need to ..work that dog...not just daily walks will make him happy. Get that frizby and find a good dog park you can spend some time in. Good excersize for you too! :pView attachment 1731841 View attachment 1731842 Now, we have this guy..much more laid back...lolView attachment 1731843 Cooper can play without coming in with bites all over him. I have to say though, would have loved keeping that border..man it was fun training him.

Sorry you had to rehome yours! :( he was adorable!! But the new dog is cute too!! He sounds like an awesome dog though besides the terribly rough play. I used to think I wanted one and still would eventually, especially after watching those freestyle videos and a bunch of trick videos I’ve seen (Nana the Border Collie is amazing, they’re on YouTube), but they are just soooo much work and I know that training doesn’t happen over night, it takes a while, and even once trained, they still need MORE training, cause they need that daily stimulation and work and everything, using their minds and I’m not sure I want a dog that NEEDS that. Same reason I won’t get a Malinois. I want a dog that can do some stuff like that but not that needs to or they’ll go crazy, you know? I want a dog that can hike/go on off leash adventures, possibly bike, possibly kayak, bikejor or skijor, train/do tricks, etc. and I’m thinking I want to do agility or nosework too. Would be nice to have a dog that can do that but doesn’t have to/doesn’t go crazy if I miss a day or something and that also has an off switch in the house and can just chill and sleep or lay on the couch with me or on the floor or whatever. Knows how to settle. Although I guess most dogs can be trained to do that. But I just hate when dogs constantly pace and can’t just chill lol and also it’d be nice if the dog was interested in me/in tune to my emotions. There’s obviously lots of breeds that fit that bill but I’m looking into Aussies (Australian Shepherds), Goldens, or Samoyeds. Or possibly English Shepherd or Scotch Collie/OTFC. Something preferably a little more mellow than a BC but still smart lol

Golden Retrievers!! I've had three in my life. Smart! Hikers! Love to fetch..so, ball, frizby.. Then, on the other hand, if you are in the home, and want to chill..they chill with you. I remember once when some guys were putting up a fence on the side of our property. I was out playing with the second Golden we had. Went over to visit with them...neighbors. Toby was at my side. He went over to one of the men, then started to go into their yard. I said, Toby, come. He came, I pointed to my side, said sit..he sat. The men looked in awe...:p .One man says, man, wish my dog would mind like that. The others started to say ..yeah, no kidding! All of my Golden's we're ready to please. Very smart dogs. Here...you know I have to share some photos!! The first one is our first..Grizz...he's pretty old here....

Ok, so, if you aren't wanting all the fur...the Goldendoodle is smart too...I now have the smaller version.. pretty smart boy. Here is one that was supposed to be small...not! Our daughter either 5 boys took him. But they are very loyal like the Golden's. Willing to please. This Jack. The top one is another if Missy. Bottom..Jack.

Awww they are so beautiful!!! Yeah, I think Golden is definitely top on my list and the best match but then I go back and forth on wanting something more “unique” and “different” and think of Aussies even though they’re not really unique either. But I think even they might be too much. Not sure I want to deal with the herding behavior or extra energy. And we’ve had retrievers and retriever mixes my whole life and I do love them and their personalities a lot. Granted, that was Labs and Lab mixes, but still. I love retrievers. There was actually a beautiful litter I found from a breeder in Indiana that sounded perfect for me. Perfect sounding side, enough drive and smarts to work but a good off switch, and more moderate show type/lighter more moderate coat but still workable and the mom I think was field bred, they were just a perfect match and would have been my dream Golden but I didn’t get on the list because I thought it was too soon. They just went home Saturday. I’m not really ready for a dog right now. Too much going on. So I didn’t get on the list. And I kind of regret it. Especially because they had 4 males available still even after birth and for pretty long after, like at least a couple weeks I think, so I probably could have gotten one. But it just isn’t the right timing. Which is unfortunate because this is truly the PERFECT pairing. Or at least the perfect sire. I am hoping they have a repeat litter eventually. Maybe later this year or early next year. :fl But if not, there are some breeders near me I am looking into too and I have one in particular in mind. But I’m sure most Golden’s would work. I have known several and every one I have known has been lovely. Super smart, obedient, sweet. Most are even super loving with me and want to be petted and stay with me even if I’m a stranger to them lol although I should say ALMOST every Golden has been lovely. There are two in my brother’s neighborhood that are downright terrors. Friendly to people but dog aggressive. They attacked a dog once, freak out barking when any dog walks by their yard or they see a dog on a walk, and they freak out when they drive by dogs too. But from what I hear that is pretty rare and not very common with Goldens. And in fact, should be discouraged.
