The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

If you have a 2 line set up for pigs, the chicken will get through/over easily. HUGE gap. The predators will get through it as well, the purpose of the 2 line is to keep the pigs in.

You better have a really REALLY predator proof coop if they aren't in a somewhat secure area. I lost a hen inside the 1 acre that is fenced. The fox came through the 6" square field fencing on the west side, around the pond and killed her between the pond and the barn. Then dragged her back through the fence and out to the woods. Not enough feathers left to follow the trail farther.

It came back the next day and would have gotten another if I hadn't happened to be coming out of the barn at the exact right time. That is when I got the 4' electronet (locked them in the barn until it came). I've also put up 2x4 no climb on the opposite side of the field fence and on the cattle panels that make the south fence line. The original intent of the fence was to keep a dog IN and for the dog to keep the predators out.
Ok thank you for caring about my birds:thumbsup,

They have been sleeping in the trees now for almost a year. I also trap with what ever trap I can get a hold of. I check all my traps daley so non of the animals have to suffer for vary long .They 're much like pheasants when it comes to predators. If you approach the tree line during the night the chickens will take to the air like wild birds. Here's some pictures of them If you haven't seen them already.

They get most of their food from foraging with supplemental scratch grains during the winter.
