But why did they attack me like that? I usually sit or stand in that area, (most of the time) to get to the birds level, to feed them snacks. Never happened to me before?
And yes my ankles still have red spots and puffy areas on my toes!

Like George asked, they may have been more hungry than normal. Some ants will also switch between sweet and protein feeding based on the condition of the colony.
 
Sadly, I cant get any of my chickens to eat ants. :sick
i agree with them, i won't eat any insect if i have a choice, i know those little fire ants really hurt when they sting you, if enough sting you , you can die, i grew up with them in florida and got stung quite often, then the bites would fester up, always fun

maybe they were protecting the queen, she might have been moving to a new hive
