It's an absolutely awful day here. It's currently only 43F outside and rainy. But our chicks are hatching. I was woken up at 2.45am by the first one announcing its arrival. So far 5 have hatched but one is still drying off in the incubator. This is the best photo I could get seeing as it's such a gloomy day.

Will you be canning anything besides tomatoes?

I did some dill pickles but didn’t process them. I’m going to freeze corn when our friend says it’s ready. He gives us lots of it. I’m hoping to freeze squash but it’s behind. It went crazy with the rain though. My pepper plant looks great. I should get 9 off there.

My cherry tomatoes are doing ok and they're really tasty. My full size ones aren't so great, still don't have any ripe ones and the ones that are just now turning kind of orange are small.

Guess there's always next year

I had hubby go to the neighbors to get some tomatoes. I went down to the garden to pick my 2 ripe ones and both were rotten on the bottom.My cherry tomatoes don’t ripen very fast.
Do you ever can tomatoes? I know you did them in pots this year.

Here are some better photos because we actually got a bit of sunshine in the afternoon, though it was still windy and very cold.




This one is so cute.

There is a 7th but it is still drying off. I had to put it in the brooder because it was yelling its head off in the incubator and making the ones in the brooder yell too. It looks like it will be a partridge coloured one. The original birchen eggs I bought were at the project stage, so there's still odd colours that pops up (plus I've crossed them to my BBR rooster to try and get gold birchens).

There's another egg pipped in the incubator and a few eggs to go after that.

Hope you've all had a good nights sleep. I'll be off to bed soon. Our daughter will be 14 tomorrow which I can't believe.

The smoke is better today.

Still, incubation will not start which is a good thing. It is not good for eggs to start and stop incubation too many times. It will work n the first week but after that, they would die.
