The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Good morning, everyone!

Debby, I’ll be following your porch saga! Just tell Frankenfoot to be careful!! We definitely want pictures. If you’ve posted any of the new fence, I somehow missed them.

The last thing we’re waiting for is the rails, which I still don’t want. But as I suspected, I was outvoted, especially when Kendra’s aide, Keesha, stopped by to see the house and commented on the lack of them being a concern. She did have one valid point - when Kendra was outside with us at the old place (and when she’s at Keesha’s) she would pull herself up on the railing of our decks and cruise along it. No rails, no walking practice. <sigh>

Nothing planned for today, finally. Our modular dealer is showing our house on the 2nd of February so I’d like to get the hallway walls and the dining room painted before then. But we’re both so tired at this point.

There was some kind of major drama at the Care Center last night. I don’t have details yet but it must have been pretty serious because Tam put in her two weeks notice. She is a single mom, no state aid of any kind (ever), with a mortgage, car payment, insurance, the new furnace, and Evan’s orthodontist to pay, so that wouldn’t have been something she did on an impulse. She’s too responsible for that and she loves her residents in assisted living too much. She’s been there 13 years. But I won’t get details until she wakes up. I’m so worried for her.
:frow Good afternoon Blooie, try to have a great day and rest... I'm hoping and praying for one of two outcomes: Either Tam finds a new loving job quickly or someone pulls their head out of their backside and fixes the problem.

Oh Btw, Blooie, I just gave you a shout out for a beginning quilter.

Well folks, I've figured out what more than a week of Emergency Heat costs... More than 50% of my normal electric bill... Add to that was labor and Freon for the warranted compressor and that was a big bite. Hopefully this compressor lasts for more than a couple years.

Hope you don't have any more problems that requires emergency heat Bob...that stuff is pricey!

It's an electric heat element in the air handler. I set the thermostat to 60 while we were using EM heat and that was the result. It didn't help that we ran out of wood in the house and I couldn't get up the hill to get more.

A setting of 60 is pretty chilly. Glad you have a new compressor now.

Ouch Bob!

I saw that, and your kind words, and have responded. I mentioned that there are a few threads about quilting too, so that should help her. Thank you!

I can’t imagine Tam turning in her notice in a tantrum. I know she’s always supposed to work Assisted Living and was promised that she didn’t have to work the other pods if she accepted that position. But they continually stick her on Pod 2, leaving her Assisted Living residents with no aides over there all night and Tam dealing with patients who need more specialized care than she’s qualified to give. Two of her AL residents have threatened a picket line to get her back, can you imagine? Now there’s a mental image! But her residents are paying good money out-of-pocket for the advantages of AL, and not getting them so they’re upset about them pulling her off the floor too. The one thing they haven’t done is put her up on 2nd floor. That was one caveat she had that she and the supervisors have been adamant about. She was attacked and seriously injured up there before her promotion to AL and missed almost a month of work recovering. That‘s the floor and Pod where the more violent dementia patients live, and she’s terrified to be up there as the only CNA. So I’m hoping that’s not what happened last night. She’d told them after the beating that if they ever put her up there again, she’d walk, and they agreed. So……

Oh my Blooie, that is scary. Are there other similar facilities nearby? I'm sure her skills and experience are in high demand.

Or mow lawn or do other physical activities. I may be old, but 'I ain't dead." :lau
Isn't that the concern? That if we old people do physical work, especially somewhat rarely, we'll have a heart attack and die?

If you’ve posted any of the new fence, I somehow missed them.
She's been holding out on us!!!

I wouldn't fret the paint. The people are looking at the building, not the paint. It isn't like the walls are all grungy and stained, just primed. Primer is fine for what they are looking for. You and Ken get some rest.

Hope everyone had a great day. Mine was pretty decent. My friend came up from Indiana for the weekend and got to hangout. She went back to her school today though so now I have to wait till next weekend :/

I lent her my car for the week since she didn't have one down there, hoping she doesn't crash it lol
