The Ninja Poodles

The purebred rescue folks gave me info on a couple of prospects, so nice purebreds are certainly out there if people are looking.

I am very confined to my area for now... I take care of my grandparents and just can't get away from home due to their daily healthcare. I ended up adopting a poodle mix from the animal shelter about 10 days ago. While there are a lot of nice dogs a few hundred miles from home, I felt most comfortable adopting one that I could 'meet'. Seems like he will be a very cool dog.

What I would also like to know is - do poodles ever get tired? We hiked 4 miles, he played *hard* with the neighbor dog, played with a visiting kid, and still isn't out of energy. After watching him fly through the air with the greatest of ease while playing today, I think he's at least a super-ninja in training.

B e a u t i f u l Poodles!

I also am an x-groomer. Never in a million years did I think I would have a standard, but she weasled her way in. She was a 4 year old reject (too small to compete) and she is the best dog.

So I agree with all you are saying about a rescue, "cull,"or a retiree. Poodles have a long lifespan given their size. I doubt I will be without a standard in the future. Next ones gonna be a different color though- white is a pain!

Again, thanks for sharing your dogs! They are gorgeous. I love a poodle in drag!

I have found, with poodles, that they are supremely adaptable. Of course they love being active, but they're also cool with vegging out on the sofa all day, if that's what YOU'RE doing. Above all, they just want to be with YOU. So if you're active, they're active; if you're sedentary, they're sedentary. (I have no idea what the rest of the "mix" might be, so you have to kind of figure that into the equation.) But no, I have NEVER met a poodle that I could wear out--but I've never had one who caused problems due to excess energy, either.

And I totally understand about wanting to meet your new family member, especially when it may already have some issues and have decided on a personality. Good for you!

I have no interest in showing dogs at all. I have 2 toys poodles I love dearly. A blue pup would be another beloved family member. 1 flock of blues = 1 pup? LOL

It used to drive my husband crazy when I called it that, especially "HIS" boy, Reggie. But then, I have seen this macho man, many a time, making a run out to the barn at night, in the rain, with a poodle in show-coat tucked into his Carhaardt coat, so that the dog could go potty without getting its precious self wet.

He says that REAL men are secure enough in their masculinity to proudly have poodles. I think he's actually hoping that someone will start something with him about Remi during duck season, so he can show her off.

I don't have great pics of Remi training yet, but here is some of her family:

Pet people love the blues. It's only in the show ring that people think they won't be treated fairly (though we certainly haven't had any problems in that regard), because they're not quite black and not quite silver.

I am certain that a reasonable chicken-to-poodle exchange rate could be worked out.

Here is what the blue color looks like at maturity (pardon the BALD haircut):

I think I told you before, my parents have always had miniture poodles. The last two have been sort of sad examples. One was the result of very bad breeding, and her spine was all messed up by the time she was about 9 years old. She had to be put down. The other was abused by her former owner, forced to sleep under a travel trailor in gravel. She was covered in little rocks all matted in her fur when my parents rescued her. They named her Pebbles. She's still alive, and really old, but still is scared by everything and freaks out at the drop of a hat. They told me these would be their last dogs
