the "not-so-bad" Blue Wheaten Ameraucana Hatch of 2010

Sounds one sided, but I'll take it!!!!

My Wheaten/Blue Wheaten eggs are blue with a touch of green to them. She just started laying though. I have her first laid egg in the bator, and the rest from that day were fertile, so the roo is doing his business!!!

Well now I'm still trying to adjust the IncCubebator. The dial on the Thermostat is VERY touchy. I wish it had a little more play.

I can't wait to candle to see how many of the 95 get discarded.

I'm guessing I'll have about 78 on day 10 and 69 on lockdown. We shall see!

Just noticed a crack in one of my own W/BWA eggs on the top of the fat end.

What do I use, fingernail polish? candle wax? take it out and forget it?

My hens are 2-3 years old (one may be 4)... they also lay a very long season since we do not really have 'winter' as some know it... I also have at least one hen that I believe is infertile (Mahonri knows this) so he may see more clears than usual. I am currently trap-nesting and marking eggs to figure out who she is... One of the issues with this variety, according to Paul Smith, is that they do not have a long productive life and many hens are spent at age 2 or 3... so I am keeping older hens that stay in production trying to breed for longer productive lives. All eggs from me are always subject to whatever I am working on or working out at the time.

But I have 25 BW Ameraucana chicks comming up and will have pullets laying in about 4 months... I'm looking forward to those deep blues again myself! Although yesterday the girls surprised me with two really blue, blue eggs.

Should be fun to see how many chicks I end up with!

All of my current hens came from Melissa's eggs. And they are beautiful!!!

They are 1 year old this year... I hope they'll be laying two years from now!

I hope you hatch goes great! It was in support of this hatch that I sent eggs... I have let very, very few Ameraucana eggs out of here this year since my talk with Paul. As far as I know I have the oldest hens of this breed still laying but if anyone knows of a breeding group that is older than mine and still laying... pass the word to me so I can try to get some of those genes!

Sorry for the thread hi-jack M... I am just so excited to see you take this on and I think it will draw lots of good attention so wanted to get a word in for my search!
