The official BYC “Poultry SHAMING” Thread! w/ Hosts, Mike & Sally

Walks, dog park. We've several here, plus a few with permanent agility. I got lucky with some in that they were fairly calm. Plus, the weims & danes were each a sibling pair....so they entertained each other. The weim girls would wrestle in a crate. It was too funny when you walked past & they froze thinking they were in trouble. Danes, thankfully, are with a few exceptions really chilled babies. Training goes a long way too. Puppy pushups are awesome! (sit to down to sit & repeat) Very tiring. I'd do the great lineup where everyone had to to sit, down, whatever to get treats. lol Still do the same with these 3. Only my chi has a spring in his little butt...can't keep it on the floor. lol Sorry hijacking from the pics/shaming!!!

That's awesome! Thats where i feel like having multiple dogs would be nice, go play with each other and wear each other out lol that's good you got lucky with calm ones cause i dont know much about dutch shepherds but I've heard Belgian Malinois can go and go and go and :D I've heard they have no off switch but idk of that's true, maybe with A LOT of work and true work, idk. Probably depends on the dog. But like compared to a German Shepherd or some other breeds that can go go go but then crash in the house I've heard they're a bit crazy which is why I haven't gotten one lol anyhow, yeah, i have occasionally tried puppy push ups or whatever as well as sit down up (sit from down) stand so kinda same thing just adding the stand. Yeah mine at first was soooo lazy and refused. Now he does it but eventually after a couple times he's like REALLY!?!? He is lazy lol half black lab half great pyrenees so also slow to move his huge body as well as slow to process things, decide whether he wants to do it or not. But after a lot of work as well as age (turned 4 in March), he has become very good at obedience and I can walk circles around him, walk across the yard, etc. He won't move. Need a lot of work on distraction training though, this is all without distractions and only I can do it with him. We'll get better though. He also doesnt go on walks anymore cause sometimes hes a little reactive and i got scared but I'm going to start taking him. 99% of the time it's leash frustration, he just wants to,say hi or play. One dog he was truly being aggressive towards but so was the other dog. We used to go on night walks but it's not fair to him to sit all day. He sleeps all day but he does need a good play session or walk. Or training. The mental exercise or puzzle toys, scent games, new tricks, whatever wears him out too. I've always wanted a second dog haha

My dutch was a mix with possibly basenji as there was another dog from the same rescue as mine that was the perfect mix of the two. He was the 'runt' grew to 65 pounds & thought he was a chihuahua! Loved to get dressed up, hopped over the chair arm to sit in your lap, etc. He also saved his 'nite nite' treat from going into his crate until he was let out after work or in the am....funnies thing. Then he'd carry it around for a bit....big, sweet goofy clown. That could've been him though.

Remember too that the giant breeds mature at a slower rate than even large breeds. Plus, what some take as being slow/stupid is just a difference in how they learn. Example, danes. During obedience training an exercise is to practice loose leash walking by walking around a store...basically circles. Well, most dogs will happily go along. A Dane will think that you've gotten lost & lead you to the exit (other dogs will too)....it's not what's being asked, but it's also not their disobeying or being lazy because they don't get it/don't want to do it. They do...they're just over it & figuring out a solution to the problem they think exists. Danes & other breeds need to have only 4/5 repetitions max before they hit the "ok, i got it & i'm done showing you" point. Could be same with your dog. Distraction....go slow. Add 1 thing at a time. For leash/dog reactivity it's acclimation...lots of exposure. Again, a little at a time. It's tough, but worth it. You've got the right thought for boredom. Give him a job....picking up things, carry, etc.

Also, what you think/feel goes down the leash to him. So he knows you're scared. Which means the reactivity could be him thinking he needs to take the lead/save/protect you versus counting on you to be the leader & save/protect him. If you don't use one try a martingale collar & pull to the side if walking or up if standing/sitting for correction when he reacts. Also, at the sight of another dog have him sit until you release him after the dog passes you. If needed, have him turn around & face the other way. A head halter can help too.

Sorry, off thread topic. Hope it helps a bit.

I thought a hawk got her, as I looked EVERYWHERE for her that evening after my friend left. My daughter and I were both so upset that we lost our favorite hen.

The next morning my friend sent me a picture of her and said - do you recognize this chicken???

She had left my house and driven almost 100 miles on the interstate (70 MPH and up), she had also gone to the pharmacy and walmart!

She kept hearing some noises and thought something was wrong with her jeep and was planning to take it to the mechanic the next day, when she went out to leave, my chicken hopped out from the wheel like nothing had happened.

Too bad she didn't stay hidden until the mechanic took a look. lol

Sorry....haven't played with the editors yet. Hope you don't mind.

We pick on the dog that's shorter than us.
He no longer will go outside without an escort.

Love Momma so much that we had to come in & tell her by waking her!!!!
(Thanks to the HUGE dog for opening the door & letting us in!)
