The Old Folks Home

KDOG, that looks colorful, and appetizing. It looks rather healthy too.

penny, that sounds yummy. I love meats cooked on the grill.

Thank you!! I tried to make it all of those things!! Haha

I’ve been trying to eat healthier lately and I’ve been doing pretty well cooking my meals this week instead of going to Panera or Subway.

And the garden has been producing like crazy so I’ve been eating tons of fresh vegetables too hah

The cucumber and squash is direct from my garden :D (the squash is the burnt thing on the plate :lau :hide )

And last night I decided to go to the store and get some chicken to go with the veggies and while there I thought I’d better have a salad with dinner for once :lau :hide so got a few bags of lettuce mixes, this one was 50/50 spinach/spring mix, and then I noticed they had some really nice looking organic raspberries so I got a couple of those. The chicken is just a precooked rotisserie chicken but I was so tired yesterday I didn’t want to cook anything (except the squash which took like 2 seconds). Could have easily gotten their meatloaf dinners or something else though, huge, hot, super delicious, cheap price, but stuck with chicken and salad. Haha

Although I did cave and buy a couple of those little individually packaged brownies they have everywhere. :hide They were 59 cents.

Anyway, while I was making my salad, I decided I would put one of my fresh cucumbers in it and then while doing that, I thought “I bet this would be delicious with some of those raspberries in it!!!” So that’s what I did. And it was haha we have some strawberry balsamic dressing I put on it. Although I think maybe regular balsamic or a raspberry vinaigrette or something may have been better. But it was still delicious or at least I thought so. And of course healthy.

Also yesterday I had made scrambled eggs and some more squash for breakfast/lunch. So I was on a roll with two healthy meals (even though I’ve been cooking it’s usually only once a day) as well as being super productive and outside for hours without my phone yesterday haha now, it did take me a while to get my day going and also after, I was on it a lot at night, but that’s cause I was so exhausted from all the work I did out there haha

I’m still so freaking sore from yesterday. :lau I think today will be something easier. Maybe something inside haha I seriously have muscles hurting I didn’t even know I had :lau

A ton of shavings had built up behind the coop and it looked ugly so I wanted to get it cleaned up before the wedding. Filled a couple barrels. Still got probably at least another one or two to fill but we ran out of barrels and the others were WAY too heavy to move. Didn’t account for that. Gonna have to figure out something else to empty them. Maybe the tractor and a trailer instead. And organized a little bit and put what I want away and the rest in a pile of stuff for the dump but my car doesn’t have a dump sticker and the one we usually use broke so it’ll have to wait. And moved 3 bags of grit and oyster shell (two 50 lb oyster shell, one 25 lb grit) from the back to the storage shed thing on the other side of the coop.

Was planning on moving the rest of the shavings today or cleaning the coop but currently have no way to and I’m still so sore I think I will do something easier inside today. Like some laundry or something. But I might at least finish sorting through all the stuff I have (soo many bowls/pans/trays/random dishes and feeders and waterers haha definitely don’t need all of it!!). But we’ll see. I think there is a yellow jacket nest near there. Yesterday I also got some GREAT cardio running from all the bees and wasps or whatever I thought were bees or wasps. :lau

A good salad dressing when you add fresh fruits like that, is mixing low fat vanilla yogurt, and just a tiny bit of raspberry vinaigrette dressing into it.

Ooohhh that sounds delicious!! Thanks for the tip!!

We saw the pups do the funniest thing last night while on their run. It's the time of the year where grasshoppers and moths are plentiful in our pasture. The gang of 5 having never seen anything like that before were mesmerized then determined to 'catch and chase' any bug that had the bad judgement to fly or jump in front of them. It was hysterical watching them run and then spring straight up in the air a good 3+ feet in order to snap at a bug. They did that across about two acres of grass and wildflowers for over a half an hour before they finally wore themselves out. All we could do was laugh until tears were running down our cheeks. So funny to see 30 pound dogs jump in the air like popcorn popping in a pan one after another. Only one female didn't join in. Sidney stayed with us, watching them, trotted off to see what the big attraction was and not finding it, trotted back to 'mom and pop' to watch her siblings acting like fleas on pogo sticks.

Sunny loves chasing flying grasshoppers and any other moving bug including butterflies.
