So did I, KDOGG!:gig

@getaclue you are just a living model of the Princess and the Pea story, only your pea is is popcorn kernel!

@ronott1. Yep, had lots of broodies this year but few chicks. I was careful. The highest number hatched was 3 chicks to two different hens. Most hatched one. I think head count is around 42 right now which is a number I can live with. There are a few roosters that need to hit freezer camp this fall but I've already made the decision that next year I will have a broody buster cage (bigger) in play and hens will be broke. I didn't feel well enough this spring to fool with them and it was easier to toss an egg under them than struggle to break them. Realistically, I know that maybe I have 5 years at the most left before I'm not able to care for my birds any longer. I'm hoping aging and thinning will diminish that number but I have to accept the fact that I will have that bridge to cross.

With that thought in mind, I'm going to work at not breeding any more birds and be content and busy with the number of birds I have.

@CapricornFarm, and other interested parties. I ran across this article this morning and read it while enjoying my coffee. Warning, it's lengthy but very informative as to what Lyme disease is all about and how a portion of the medical community is at odds with the other concerning treatment of the disease and the companion diseases of Lyme:

OMG, think of all the people that are suffering and the doctors won't listen!

Went to check on my bantam hen and her two eggs and didn't have to do too much. The minute I looked in her box a little yellow headed chipmunk chick popped up to peek over the edge of the box. Mom seems to be doing her mother hen duty and taking care of it. Other egg was a dead in the shell somewhere mid range. After one whiff I didn't delve too deeply into the why and where fores. I'm just glad one out of 4 bantam hens has her head screwed on right. Hate to be tempted to pinch her head off too.

I found this in the box today...

Just the yappy chick, not the flowers!

Darling baby. Love the top knot.

I candled the new chick last night.Strange looking candling. I saw movement but it had a HUGE air cell (but then it has had a big air cell all through the gestation) and the chick was doing the waltz or tango in that egg, just moving all over the place. Checked this morning, no chick. Checked at 6pm darling little fluffy butt peering out at me. My hens seem to be striving to drive me bat carp crazy this summer. I don't think I've had one normal hatching all summer.

Perchie is in the desert high country. I think she said that not too much reached her.
