The Old Folks Home

Deb! I'm so happy to hear that you got good news at your last checkup!:celebrate:yesss:

It's been a bit frantic around here. We are trying to finish up our wood harvest then yesterday morning, I went out to collect eggs and when I stuck my hand under a hen I encountered soft and fluffy as in chicks. Good grief. Guess I miss dated eggs. They were supposed to hatch this Friday by my calculations. The last egg was still to be hatched so I stuffed it under a bantam. Egg pipped early last night, still no zip this morning. Baby cheeping away inside. I have been seeing thick membranes in some of my eggs so I started chipping away egg. No veins visible. Baby still fussing at me. Mom giving me stink eye. I promised her I would return her baby to her and proceeded to do an emergency hatch. Baby rolled out in my hand, normal except for that stupid thick, dry membrane. Mom got her baby back.

Guess I'm going to have to draw the line with broody hens. No brooding after the end of June. The temps just get too hot to risk it.

Next job up taking Roxi for her stitches to be removed, then home to make a pen for the new mom and her baby.

Only one left. I'm going to candle tonight for viability and hope she gets one to hatch when I calculated it was supposed to.:hmm
Broody hens=too many chickens!

We went to Muir Woods and Stinson Beach today

The redwood trees are huge there!

Nice to see you and your wife Ron. Is the bird a crane?

If I had any decent pictures of me (from the last 50 years) I'd put them up. Think my best photo was one of my "conehead" shots.
I think it is a Heron. The are listed as being in the park this time of year
