The Old Folks Home

Chihuahuas aren’t built for New England!

He doesn’t like to get his feet wet. We shovel out an area for him to “go outside” and he just goes there. If it’s wet, he tries to pick up all his feet to keep them dry. It doesn’t work that well!

His name is Sprocket.

Awww he sounds like a cutie!!

Gator was funny; as much as he LOVED the snow and as big as he was, if he was outside too long or it was too “cold” to his liking, he would stand there lifting his paws up one by one like it’s so cooooolddddd please let me iiinnnn :lau even if he wasn’t even outside that long. Too long by his standards lol but yet other times he would lay in snow banks for hours and you couldn’t get him in for anything. But he just didn’t like his precious little toesies getting cold apparently :lau goofball!! He also HATED rain and would melt in it!! Sometimes he would even refuse to go outside. He would look out the door, see the rain, stare out, walk away. NOPE. No way. This is from a 130-140 pound black Lab/Great Pyrenees mix... huge baby. :lau super deep, scary bark, and protective or acted that way when necessary but in actuality, a huge baby and a major sweetheart cuddle bug. :lau

But don’t tell the neighborhood predators that.... his reputation would have been ruined. :lau ;)

Miss the big lovable oaf lol

Well Tara always said cattle dogs have boundless energy. I love Lacy but, Fixin's was my total favorite. I think I took her loss as badly as Tara.

We do get attached to other people’s animals don’t we? Not just their animals but their kids or grands too and whatever else is going on in their lives, get so invested in everyone and everyone’s lives here and everyone’s so nice, it feels like one big family of our own. It’s great. :) :hugs

I'm guessing Dachshunds are not meant for New England winters either.

Probably not although I have seen several! I think the long coated ones may be better suited.

Although it seems with the toy breeds or at least the short coated ones, a lot of people dress them up. :)

I’m not super into dressing animals up and do think some of the outfits and “get ups” are a little bit ridiculous, and almost feel like patronizing or disrespectful to the animals to me, as dumb as that sounds, BUT I think a sweater or winter coat or something for warming purposes is fine and also cute lol and that said, some animals truly LOVE dressing up so if so, that’s fine too hah but some go crazy with fancy dresses and bonnets and stuff and idk haha but whatever floats your boat I guess lol

I think doxies would require tummy warmers

Oh yes probably! Because of their long tummies and being so low to the ground. They do have like doggie long johns, cover the legs and chest and tummy and everything

Sprocket used to love his coats, because it meant we were going outside. And I think he liked the attention and handling.

That was before I moved to Vermont. But he likes to wear a coat if I take him somewhere in the car. Even to the post office. He is a shut-in all winter!

They love him at the Post Office. I used to take him to choir practice at church; he would be passed from lap to lap.
