The Old Folks Home

I’m back to cooking again. :D sort of. Only did last night and then now lunch but still. Better than toast with peanut butter and jelly :lau

Now that I’ve been eating vegetables again too, I have way more energy. :lau

The egg and the greenish/brownish/chocolateish pepper are homegrown. The rest is from the store but still good. :)

Plenty more if anybody’s hungry lol

Oh and having a cup of green tea with it too. :D

Nice!
I soft boiled two eggs in the instant pot this morning. They were perfect!

Yummmy:drool Breakfast here this morning was two slices of home made bread toast with honey and a banana. Lunch will be fat free cottage cheese and sliced peaches. Hate this gout diet. Haven't even thought about supper

Very true. The Santa Ana winds blow in southern California, not up where they are cutting power. I believe the areas where they are cutting power are also mountainous to some extent, certainly Paradise was. Not so easy to run a flail along the power lines there.

Yes, but they have enough unemployed (every state does!) that could be given the job as a ground crew to clear the areas manually. Hard work, pay them good. They will get the job done if they are willing to do hard work!

NPR had a segment today about PGE adding Minnie weather stations to monitor the local conditions. This will allow them to only turn off areas more surgically and effect less people.

Tree trimming and line maintenance is also moving to being managed by the Public Utility commission. Hopefully they will do a better job

DH just mentioned this while we were discussing what you folks are going through. He said to install ground sensors or some sort of sensor that would monitor ground temperatures. Glad to see this happening.

Thanks Ron for explaining this. No, it's hard for us to understand it here in the heartland. Our brush fires are small and usually easily contained. The Dept Of Conservation was after us to do a controlled burn of our timber at one time. 20+ acres. They didn't say where we were going to find the people to come in and help us control it tho...sounds like they were just wishing for trouble.

We are just surprised that the people haven't risen up and converged on PG&E's corporate office. I would be spittin tacks if we had to deal with that here.

That looks very healthy, pretty fancy lunch. I never get more creative that one of 4 meats plus cheese in a sandwich.

Thanks! And not too too fancy, I love sautéing stuff. :D

Doesn’t take very long and makes it very tasty. Especially the peppers. I usually turn it down and let them simmer for a few minutes and it makes them very soft and sweet :drool

And that used to be my go to too or I’d buy subs or make a PB&J even :hide

But I’ve been trying to eat healthier lately.

For a while I was cooking a lot which you might remember with the eggplant parm, and the skillet thing with chicken, sweet potato, and spinach, think I posted pics of all those a while ago, but then now the last couple weeks I’ve gone back to eating like total carp. :hide either buying lunch (subs) all the time or just making toast cause I’m in a hurry. :hide though really it’s not much faster cause it takes a while to toast then spread the PB on it. Eggs would probably be faster lol

But anyway, been trying to change that.

And oddly now that I have been, it’s easier because I have more energy. When I was eating like total carp, I felt like total carp and really didn’t have the energy to do much of anything, let alone cook or eat healthy, but now it’s easier once I started it.

Nice!

Thanks!!

That sounds delicious too!!

My breakfast involved dumping a serving of hemp protein powder in a tall glass of orange juice :lau :hide

It was disgusting and didn’t dissolve so I had to refill the glass several times and keep restirring it. But I downed it. And it said a serving (1/4 cup) is 14g of protein and that the hemp powder has every essential amino acid so that’s good I guess. Still felt a bit sick/off though from not eating or maybe from the lack of sleep. Wasn’t really hungry but just felt odd. I guess cause the liquid breakfast really didn’t have any calories. :lau

But I was in a hurry haha although it really wasn’t that fast with all the work I had to do to dissolve it/make sure I got it all and dealing with the grainy texture/chunks of it. :sick

Thanks!! I thought it was!! And oh boy I would be starving if that’s all I could eat! That’s more like one or two snack for me :lau I’m sorry. :( :hugs

Yeah, it's one of the worst diets I've ever attempted. But since I'm off meds for gout I have to do something. I was out of cherry extract capsules for a week and wound up with a new nodule on my thumb. Got capsules ordered and bought some cherry juice to drink in the meantime (totally gross unless you sweeten it big time. I use permitted saccharin and stevia) The nodule immediately started to fade once I resumed the juice/capsules so I can't argue the gout diagnosis with them too much.

Mainly no red meat no fat based gravies, no high fructose, minimal processed foods. Lots of veggies, fruit and cheese along with chicken (especially thighs) and freshwater fish. They also allow duck but at 25 dollars a pop......I'll stick to chicken breasts and thighs. I've never been a big eater. And since I want to keep the weight I lost off, I sigh and eat my chicken thighs and veggies like a good little patient......one of these days though.....

That sounds awful! :hugs imagine you must get bored lol

Yes it is. Last month I fell off the wagon. Just couldn't take another mouthful of it. I ate two bags of cheddar cheese and sour cream potato chips. Several candy bars, basically all the junk food I'd been avoiding over the past year. It was wonderful, it was delicious. I got it out of my system and am now back on my diet. My big luxuries are 2 graham crackers in the evening, a half cup serving of low fat ice cream and Go Fish cheddar crackers....yeah, I love cheese.:drool And lots and lots of fruit.

Thunder and rain all day here today and all day tomorrow before turning colder.

I'm of to peel apples and make applesauce for the freezer.

I am day dreaming about making cinnamon rolls this weekend!

Well see, from scratch I can do! Pure ingredients, no additives. I can even do the icing and the sugar content as long as it's not HFC syrup....as long as I do not go to extremes.
My recipe does not have corn syrup in it and the karo I use is not HFC
