The Old Folks Home

My green beans didn't do well this year. I tried in ground and in pots but neither did anything other than produce a few beans. I think I had enough to mix in with potato and squash chunks and roast but that was it. Too wet, too cold. I thought about planting a second crop but my heart wasn't in it at that point.

I just read where UC Berkeley and other universities in California have closed due to fires and the electrical shut downs. Sounds as though things are getting really bad out there.

Stay safe, all California members.

Aww I’m sorry! That stinks. :(

Idk why but everything seemed to do really well this year. Except the peppers didn’t do so well but they did alright. I lost a lot of tomatoes to critters or rot or whatever but that’s entirely my fault cause I never staked them and planted late. :hide still getting a good amount though. But the cucumbers and beans took off!! It’s insane!! Although I did lose a squash plant after a few squashes and my peas all died. :(

I just went out to tend the birds. The wind feels more like November here. Had me hustling to find things to throw over the windows to stop drafts until I can finish weatherizing for winter. Low for tonight is predicted at 30 which for here means 28-29 isn't out of the question. Got all my plants in except for one and DH has to help me with it as it's a big heavy planter. I still need to dig gladiolus bulbs but I do that after the first frost. Gather zenia head for next years plants than I'm pretty much garden ready for winter.

Yeah, I saw that map. Didn't read the article, just the headlines. Really painful seeing some of those mc'mansions going up in smoke.

They say exercise can have a huge impact too.

But of course it’s a bit of a catch 22 since when you’re depressed, it can be hard to eat right and exercise. But they say if you can force yourself it helps

And it also seems to make my anxiety worse too for whatever reason. And of course the depression which really isn’t bad when I actually get up and do stuff and eat right haha still slightly there though but that’s probably because I never last on the healthy eating thing long.

I wonder if I should try that 3 week thing haha

I’m telling the truth on this. If everybody got enough exercise (and ate a decent diet, but the evidence for exercise is extremely strong), it would nearly put psychologists, psychiatrists, and counselors out of business. Really.

If you’re depressed you do have to force yourself (also known as doing something you don’t feel like doing, which is something we all have to do most every day), but taking a walk and picking up the pace a little more each day will do it.

Exercise is a wonder drug and if you exercise safely and carefully, zero side effects!

Okay had to pickup the speckled sussex we ordered but did big boo boo ordered 10 did not count saw the brown birds caught them oops have 15 not ten called said owe you for 5 more

That is the truth, when I was very depressed years ago, the medication helped some but, when I added walking, I was doing great. Plus I became a local celebrity- people shook hands with me, took my photograph with their family, etc.

I was the woman with the hat (wide brimmed sun hat) or with face mask in the bowels of winter. Weird tho.Several other folks walked every day like me and they didn't have a fan club. I think the hat was the prime factor.

Exercise is proven to release endorphins in the brain that give you a natural 'high'. I always felt better and more energetic after cycling 25 or 100 miles. Of course after riding 100 miles DH had to pick me up off of the grass where I had collapsed in the front yard, fill the tub with hot water and help me in so I could soak....once I regained feeling in and use of my legs, I felt great! :th25 is definitely an easier goal.;)
