cknnewbie, sometimes even when we do our best we wind up feeling bad, all I can say is you did your best and at least made sure there were gifts to open. My son and I had a few really tight years too, one year he was happy he got homemade cookies and a few small trinkets. We're all still here and sharing, and I am grateful for that, and for all of you.

Today is my son's birthday. He has rarely been unhappy his birthday is Christmas Eve. He's become an independent young man, spending his birthday with friends (senior in college) and Christmas with his new lady love and her family. I miss him, but am so proud of how self-sufficient he has become.
