The Old Folks Home

Ron, that sounds delicious!! I keep frozen raspberries etc in the freezer-- soo soo sooooo good. I plan to make a pumpkin cheesecake for tomorrow's dinner. All low carb of course. ANd I have the ingredients to show the kids how to make baklava. I was introduced to that when a friend was dating a fellow from Greece-- the mixture of honey , walnuts and fine flaky pastry dough is a peice of heaven.
I loooove baklava!

In St. Louis in the 50s and early 60s I remember air raid drills. We'd have to bend over and tuck our heads and torsos under our desk tops.
Like that would help in the event of an atomic blast.

We had the under the desk and the hallway drills, seems like they both were for air raids, but it's been a while ...

Wisher, that is an absolutely heartbreaking story, it sounds as if it awakens the pain of that day when you retell it!

cknnewbie, sometimes even when we do our best we wind up feeling bad, all I can say is you did your best and at least made sure there were gifts to open. My son and I had a few really tight years too, one year he was happy he got homemade cookies and a few small trinkets. We're all still here and sharing, and I am grateful for that, and for all of you.

SCG, hope you were able to get to work and back safely.

Today is my son's birthday. He has rarely been unhappy his birthday is Christmas Eve. He's become an independent young man, spending his birthday with friends (senior in college) and Christmas with his new lady love and her family. I miss him, but am so proud of how self-sufficient he has become.

POzees-- nice to hear when young people grow up to be independent and self sufficient. My kids are still young, but getting there I hope.

Tree went up yesterday. Boys decorated it this morning. THey are out feeding the birds , and playing I'm sure, while I make frenched toast. THe girls are not laying and this is the first time buying eggs in almost 2 years . . .the white eggs in a carton look really weird to me now!!

Merry Christmas to All!!

we had blueberry pancakes for breakfast this morning and I made enough to share with the girls but I had to literally run to get them to the coop before they froze solid. ACTUAL -22 (-40 windchill will do that!

good thing I have a good source of heat in the coop (I can monitor the coop from the house and it's a toasty 35 at roost level) because the poor girls will be in definite lock down fro Christmas unless we get enough sunshine to warm up the greenhouse.

It's supposed to get above zero by dark so then the snow will start. Needless to say it looks like even driving to town to church tonight may be a no go for these two old fogies. it is going to be a quiet, peaceful Christmas. Just me, pa and the critters snuggled in all warm and cozy
