The Old Folks Home

It's ever so slightly better than the S8. Not enough to justify the $1,000.00 price tag though. Oh, my S8 phone case is the right size, however, the on/of button is not in the same location as with the S8, so I have to get a new case. I will do that this pay day, but it feels a little naked without it.
They do like to change the button and port locations!

Well....8 more jars of apple pie jam are processed and sealed. I'm about appled out at the moment and we still have about a bushel left. I sliced one for lunch and smeared it with peanut butter but they are getting to the point where they just don't taste good to me anymore.

I'll save a bunch for eating as DH loves apples but the rest will be delivered to two neighbors before they start going bad.

Congrats on the new phone @getaclue. When we got our current Samsung they didn't understand why anybody would want a 'simpler' phone. :idunno

Yep. I bailed on the coop thread some time ago for that reason. People would post their newly built coop and ask for opinions. If I have a lot of threads to catch up on I go straight to the "constructive criticism". Then a quantity of people (not all) would get all pissy because I found some faults. Then WHY did you ask for opinions? Just tell us to post back that it is FABULOUS!!!.

And others would get pissy because I didn't make nice before the criticism. Have to wonder if some of the people even read up on the coop thread for ideas and info before designing and building. I swear the "chicken wire won't keep predators out" info must be on every other dang page yet here comes yet another masterpiece with chicken wire attached with Arrow staple gun staples. I gave up.
I have seen that before!

Then they wonder how something got in to kill their babies

It reminds me a bit of the world of 3D printing. There is a site called thingiverse where people can post their 3D creations and the supposed programs to make whatever they have created....or have they?

There has been several occasions when I've pointed out something to DH that I would like for him to try to print and he warns me to look closely because a lot of times people put the 'plans' and files to a piece on line but it has never been printed.

When you try to print the item you learn really fast that what looks good on paper doesn't work when actual fabrication comes around.

Kinda sorta like the coops mentioned. What looks good on paper doesn't necessarily mean it will be predator proof or have enough ventilation once constructed. Sure it's pretty but........

My favorite is repeating that “the 3’ x 4’ coop you bought from TSC won’t house 12 chickens, despite what it says on the label.”

Forgive me. I posted this on another thread (about too much oyster shell, where we were joking about our girls being “prodigies”) and I enjoyed writing it so much I’m sharing it here. I’m sure I’m breaking all the rules. Don’t tell!

My prodigies specialize in finding creative places to lay eggs. After I got only one egg in 3 weeks, I investigated the darkest, most difficult-to-reach corner of the run, behind and under the ramp. 16 eggs! I blocked that spot
And a subsequent one.

Recently I’ve been keeping them inside for longer and longer because egg production was low. We’ve noticed one of my Buff Orps often went off by herself into the woods behind the garage. Today she came out of the woods and started singing her egg song. That’s when I knew for sure.

I said to DH, “I’ll bet there are a dozen.” Nailed it. 12 even. Scrambled egg treats tonight, plenty of eggs left. 4 looked clean enough to salvage, and they didn’t float.

That's a hoot, Angel.

I set my girls' oyster shell bowl in a nesting box that they don't use (you know how it goes. I built them a beautiful three stalled wooden nest box and they want to lay in a kitty litter bucket) where it wouldn't get knocked over and spilled like they usually do.

I mix layer crumbles with game bird finisher and all flock pellets so the young cockerels don't fry their kidneys but the hen's egg shells were getting a bit brittle so I started putting out the oyster shell for them again.

Tonight I got one egg.....somebody laid it in the oyster shell bowl. I mean come on, you goofy hen. I have 12 kitty litter boxes freshly cleaned and stuffed with pine chip and straw and you laid your egg in the oyster shell bowl? What? Did you feel the urge to lay an egg, stop off for a bite or two of calcium to get things rolling and suddenly went...oh CARP! I'm not going to make it up two feet to the nest boxes?

Sometimes they really amaze me....and not in a good way.
