The Old Folks Home

Now that I’ve been eating healthy lately everything is either too salty or too sweet or something. :lau :hit

Tried to eat some tortilla chips just now... waaaaaaayyyyyyyyy too salty. Same thing happened last night but I thought I’d try again. :lau

Might just be this brand though but still.

Probably for the best though. Ate way too much today anyway :lau

I think I will just go to bed haha

Just funny to me (and kind of upsetting) how certain foods are now totally ruined for me. :lau :hit

You will be better off in the long run.

You will be better off in the long run.

Yes definitely! And that’s what I keep telling myself but it’s just shocking cause I always used to eat this stuff. Even Milanos I’m like “too chocolatey now”.

And the funny thing too is now I instantly get a headache from the salt, the chocolate, etc. instantly feel it. Not necessarily a migraine but not only does it just taste disgusting (too salty) to me but I instantly feel it in my head now too.

Although the migraines have been way less even almost totally gone since taking those vitamins and a multivitamin thing.

Although this week I did have a few pretty bad ones for the first time in a little while but it’s also that time.

Otherwise, normally when I would get one, I don’t, or I’ll just get like maybe a little tension in he head or something temporarily but not a full one. So much improved. Which I’m glad about.

And honestly even if I still get them around that time but no other times, that’s still a vast improvement from what it’s been lately.

I’ve yet to test concerts though and what it’s like there. That’s usually another major one for me. Not sure it will change but maybe.

Although honestly I’m not even sure if it’s the vitamins reducing them or just the fact that I have been eating way healthier and exercising more/being on my phone less. Maybe a combination of all of it.

I had to cut down on salt when I was pg, and ever since, can't tolerate things with a lot of salt in them. And yes, I notice at first taste. Also can't take really really sweet things like fudge, many different candy bars (I tried tho) and also don't like sweet-sy ice cream. Blue Bunny is the culprit there but, doesn't taste like real ice cream anyway.

I read an article that said that chocolate is one of the major triggers for migraine activity.

As for salt, I season lightly on the stove to enhance flavor and that is it. No salt shakers in our house. If I need to add salt after cooking I use Morton Light Salt as it has something like a third less sodium in it and helps boost my potassium levels. DH is even more rigid about salt than I am. He prefers NO added salt on any of his meat and I try to do that for him. But there are things like potatoes, gravies, soups and the like that really need a touch of salt to be edible. It was hard for me as I come from a family of salt addicts but I seriously prefer food that hasn't been over salted now.

My big plan for 2020 is to lessen my use of processed foods even more. More brown rice side dishes that I season myself instead of the ready to cook ones like Knor, Rice A Roni and the like sell in the bags. More potato dishes like scalloped and au gratin that I make from scratch. I make my own cookies. Don't do cakes other than on birthdays and pie crusts are hand made. Do I feel better eating this way? Yes definitely so I'm hoping that taking the anti-inflammatory diet to the next step will help even more.

My big complaint is that I can't kick the sugar. I use saccharin and stevia to sweeten tea and kool aid, oh and coffee. Gots to have my sweetened coffee.

Like Carol O'Connor said in an episode of In the Heat of the Night, No sugar, no salt, no artificial flavor, no caffeine, No fat. Somebody asked him why he even ate and he said 'because it reminds me of the real thing'

Yep, I hear ya. But seriously. I do use a lot of honey and if I can find it reasonably priced, agave sweetener and I have cut back tremendously on the occasional 'mini snack' bar of Snickers but going cold turkey at 66 seems to be more than my old body can handle. It's like, okay, you eat NO red meat, you eat meat only once a day, you eat low fat, low everything but that's where it draws the line in the sand. I do crave the occasional sugar treat and find myself giving into it about once a month.

@perchie.girl I'm so sorry you were tired and not able to enjoy the wonderful meal you prepared. Try not to hold it against yourself or get discouraged. This too shall pass. You are doing GREAT and you are in my thoughts and prayers.

Keep up the good work.

Okay, everyone. One holiday down two more to go! Bring on Christmas!

Oh my, it is super difficult to give things up. I used to drink a lot of Pepsi. When I was busy grooming, that's all I had all day until I got off work. I gave it up and don't want it any more. Never lost any weight from not drinking it.
I am trying to cut back on sugar, but the substitutes give me a headache. Dr. said use less salt. IBS says don't eat red meat. After a while you get tired of pork or chicken. Sometimes we have fish, but I prefer shrimp, lobster, crab or scallops. Great with butter, lol!

My family are major salt addicts too. Or at least my dad. My mom doesn’t really use much salt but my dad always waaaaaaayyyyy over salts and peppers everything haha

Definitely hard quitting that and sugar. And even when I drink tea (which isn’t that often but been trying to more), I pour honey into it :lau :hide

Gotta cut back on that hah

My favorite Dog show.... Thank you KDogg

I am done in. Turkey came out awesome. dressing too. Made Mushroom Gravy and brussle sprouts and mashed potatoes.

I couldn't eat any of it aside from a taste now and then to adjust seasonings.

I am doing the half turkey again Some day. In the dutch oven all the stuffing fit in there under the turk... and absobed all the goodness.

It took me from monday to today to do this meal. Not ready for the effort. Made myself sick. nothing that a good nights sleep shouldnt help.

Clean up starts to morrow.

Sounds good! The stuffing had mushrooms in it and I made turkey gravy. It was a big hit!
