The Old Folks Home

Not bad. I finally managed to get a good nights sleep...only the first since I got my last Prolia shot so I was thrilled. I'm starting to weigh the side effects with the benefits of this drug now and plan to talk it over with my Doc when I see him in a little over a week.

How about you? Besides the steroid buzz are you beating the crud that settled in?
I slept a lot today, it rained on and off all day so I didn't miss anything major. I do feel better than I did. Idk if I can fall asleep tonight though.

Yep, we told DD2 to leave plenty of time to get to work in the morning. Smugg's is supposed to get sleet and freezing rain all day :sick And winds gusting to 30s and 40s from the SSE as well. Of course she doesn't know which wind direction shuts her lift down. My guess is that her's won't since it is on the lower mountain and faces northwest.

The forecast is really dreadful. Days of the sweetly titled, “wintry mix,” along with high winds. We would like to ski in the next couple days but I would prefer to arrive alive.

My daughter’s best friend broke both of her wrists falling off her snowboard today at Stowe. :barniePoor girl.

Oh man, I hate to hear this! At least she should heal quickly.

Glad you are feeling better, Cap. I must have been in sympathy with you as all I wanted to do yesterday is sleep also. I haven't been sleeping well at night due to shoulder pain plus that latest Prolia shot so I think it was that causing the sleepiness. I managed to get a good nights sleep last night so I feel more rested and alert today.

We had a HAM radio treat this weekend. The International Space Station is transmitting what we call QSO cards using slow scan TV signals. Basically, they are transmitting the 'visual' card on a specific frequency that we can use special computer software to capture and decipher. A QSO card is a card that an operator sends out that verifies a legitimate contact with another HAM operator. Operators collect them like 'stamp collectors'.

The ISS is doing this as a New Year's gift to HAM operators. There is usually at least one HAM operator on board the space station. There is a US astronaut on board who is a HAM and a surgeon/emergency medicine specialist, Dr Andrew Morgan KI5AAA but he is on board as an Army Flight Engineer. He is the person doing the transmitting and as the space station passes overhead HAMS can download the signal. Pretty cool.

If you would like to see what the cards look like you can click on this link and it will take you to the pictures posted on our HAM club's internet site.

Pretty neat also is that the cards are in both English and Russian.

Owwieeeee! Somebody didn't teach that girl the safe way to fall! Arms tucked in and your face covered. Better to break a collarbone or dislocate a shoulder than to break both of your wrists. She's young though and will heal fast. Just going to be miserable in the meantime...not to mention humbling.

I was always very relaxed when I went skiing. So when I fell, not much happened. Never broke a bone at it.

Yay!!! I got my 5 year award! Chicken happy dance time!
