The Old Folks Home

The 5 cattle dogs are a year old today also. Told them there was no excuse for acting like knuckle heads now that they are officially adult dogs.

In all seriousness, I whole heartedly agree. Cattle Dogs are puppies their whole life. When Dingo used to escape his yard, and we'd yell at him, he'd give us this over his shoulder chicken CARP grin, kick his heels up at us, flip his tail and off he'd go only to come in when he was good and ready. Last week we had two of the youngsters out for exercise and when I yelled for one of them to 'house' their command word for 'go home', they both gave me that same over the shoulder dog laugh, flipped their tails, kicked up their heels and took off for more laps around the barn. DH just laughed and said 'did you see that? They just 'dingo'ed' you!

The good news is that everyone survived their first year. Not without injuries, scars and the like but by golly we have 5 housebroken, spayed and neutered and almost civilized dogs for our trouble!

Happy New Year Everyone!

Happy New Year! I bet you love those little rascals!

Libby and Franklin do that too. They’ve been better lately about listening but they’ll wait to play or barely play until the last second and then you’ll say “in the house” and they’ll take off :lau

Actually, they’ll start to come in but then I guess the running towards the door triggers their chasing instinct or something and they’ll start tearing around and wresting and everything. :lau

They’ve been getting better though and eventually some “ah ah! In the house!” Gets them lol

Libby also waits to pee until you tell her to go inside LOL

They’re not cattle dogs though but mixes and Libby is about 2 and Frank is a year and half. We think. They’re rescues haha

Our old yellow Lab used to do the same carp eating grin and take off trick :lau

He would be walking down the driveway or into the woods and you’d call him and he would literally stop, turn to look at you, then just keep going. :lau :gig :lau

Happy New Year to you also, Cap!

And yes we do and we have the battle scars to prove it!

Snow has started to act more like a grown girl not running the chickens might be a good guardian of them yet heaven forbid keeping 5 of any dog puppy to 1 year I had to keep up with her was enough for me Kudos you did it :gig

Well, mostly. They are still learning. The girls are really doing better than the boys. They are so eager to please and just want to cuddle. The boys are still driving with testosterone in their tanks. I was hoping they would be over the squabbling, sounding like they are trying to kill one another stage by now. Vet said to give it time...like duh, doc. They're cattle dogs. They don't know how to tell time! And if you gave them a watch they'd just eat it.
