The Old Folks Home

I'm wondering if the temporary isn't putting pressure on an exposed nerve in the tooth. I have teeth that are sensitive like that. Bite down on something just right and it feels like your head is shooting off your shoulders and going into orbit without you.

I definitely would go back for a consult. Shouldn't have to live in pain with anything.

Morning everyone.

My tooth made it through the night without anything else falling out or off. I'm a jaw clencher at night also and have been know to shatter weak teeth so I was concerned that I might do that.

I think my worst experience with my teeth was when the dentist was working on a root canal and while doing placement xrays he discovered that he was working on the wrong tooth. The tooth beside it was abscessed and needed drained immediately. Anesthetic doesn't work in the presence of pus. He kept trying to deaden the area a bit for me but nothing worked. I still remember....27 shots and excruciating pain.

Then they wonder why we don't come in regularly.

Guy sounds like an idiot. I had a root canal done on an infected tooth. Never again!

Yeah, I thought so too. He kept saying that the tooth he was working on did need a canal done on it but the acute tooth was the abcess.

The sad part was that I wound up having to have the other tooth extracted also as I developed a reaction to the material that they had used to seal the canal with. A dentist recently told me that doesn't happen any longer as they have developed a neutral material that won't trigger an allergic reaction.

I still won't do root canals no matter how good of a sales pitch they use on me.

There are over a couple hundred dentists in our county. I would say that the majority of them are either not very good at their jobs, and shouldn't even be in practice, OR they won't help much unless you have a boatload of money to give them. Finding a really good dentist, even in a county where you can't swing a cat, without hitting one, is not easy, even with that many available. Most of the really good ones are either, not taking new patients, or are booked solid, so the appointment is for a few months down the road. When you get in with a good one, they're gold, so stick with them. Don't neglect cleanings either.

Should I call and tell them? And ask to go in early? Or wait until the appointment for the permanent crown?
I would call Monday so there know there is a problem. They might want you to come in to get checked. If there is something that needs to be done before the permanent crown is done you don't want to wait until that date since the permanent crown date might get pushed farther out.

Somewhere during puberty they should pull everyone's teeth and replace them with stainless steel.

Um, sure. Right doc. :th

The gum is fine, it only hurts when I bite down.

Directly after the dentist put in the good crown (so, this last go around) the gum was a bit sore but it healed up fine.

And I can brush all over, no pain.

It is just if I bite down on the tooth, and it hurts deep inside, as if maybe the entire tooth is being pressed down too hard?? Or, something?

If I clearly knew what was wrong... -sigh-
I would go back-- The tooth might need a root canal.

Good morning all.
Sometimes there is an extra root that is missed during a root canal. If the root canal was done correctly, you should not feel pain
