The Old Folks Home

I hear you @Perris. I wasn't planning to do a garden this year outside of a few containers for tomatoes and green beans. Then the flu threat hit and it now is just so difficult to get food.

I figure anything I can grow will help us over the winter when they are expecting the flu to return.

I still have my containers that I plan to put either pole beans or tomato plants in but DH has been tilling a regular garden place for me close to the house. So far I have carrots, onions, beets and potatoes in the ground. Yes, my arthritic joints are screaming at me but I'm yelling at them to SHUT UP! and getting the job done even if my knees make me have to ask DH to help me up from the ground.

Hmmm... Might just have to give peas a late go. There is a shaded spot in the garden, so they won't fry (hopefully) in the ramping up weather. It's about a week early for humming birds, but there have been sightings. Haven't seen any at the feeder.

Today's funny....

You don't have a rolling garden seat? I love mine!

We did start a garden. We are now very aware we need to fence it. The rabbits (wild) came along and ate all the tender sprouts, as they came up. We will get it fenced in. We are now planning our fall garden.
Oh no, I have had lots of trouble with wild animals eating my flowers and veggies. It stinks.

Last year a deer decimated half of my sweet potato plants. Only thing good about a deer IMHO is that they make wonderful roasts, steaks and sausage!

We have a lot of rabbits also. Right now I have snow fencing around my garden. I'm determined to grow carrots or else!

No @CapricornFarm, no rolling stool. Do they work well on rough ground?

Also, regarding deer. Conservation guy told us that deer can clear 8 feet without breathing hard. To keep them out of a large area, double fence as high as you can make it and about 4 feet apart. Or...

My favorite. Run clear fishing line around your garden or area that you want to protect. We enclose our orchard with fish line 'fence'. Highest strand at 4 feet and then a strand every foot. It really does work. The deer can't see the line and walk into it. They feel it but don't see it, panic and run away as fast as they can. We will find a few broken strands and repair them but usually after two or three nights no more deer problem.

They cross your property off their all you can eat buffet menu.
