The Old Folks Home

With meat shortage, you should be able to make a bit of money off of them too!
I am thinking of trying to sell cockerels for people to grow out as meat birds. I hate just culling them when I can find a place for them. But I don't want to grow them out for 6 months and then sell them for $10.

Good Morning! Way to go, Cap!
I have not noticed anything drastic in the stores around here since the initial freak-out.
I also rarely go too so that may have something to do with it. We have been cutting trees marked for an internet tower installation, a small one, and I am finally getting back into
work shape or at least making some progress. It is just nice to be outside in perfect weather.

@Cynthia12, my heart goes out to you and your sister. I pray that her journey is smooth and painless.

@Beer can That is so sad about the milk. Understandable but sad. I told DH that if the milk is pasteurized, why don't they just put an announcement out that they have milk to give away, bring containers! It would seem more logical then just dumping it in the nearest gutter.

Good morning everyone. I'm sitting here watching Orioles fight over the nectar I put in the feeder yesterday. The little gluttons!

Good job @CapricornFarm. So how many have you sold at the moment.

I seriously thought about advertising my extra roosters but it may come to us needing them for our own consumption if things keep going the way they are going. I have no problem eating my own birds, I've done it already. I don't even mind dispatching them, I just dislike butchering. Nasty smelly dirty job that it is.....but necessary. Kind of hard to eat one that is still alive. They protest too much when you stick a fork in them.....just joking.

A daughter and I decided to put this together for her since we are quarantined.
:love :hit
I don't know how dairy is doing on your side of the US Ron, pretty bad here.
Not good here. I went to my Farmer's Market beef supplier yesterday to pick up 9 steaks. They had just sold off their 180 milkers, they left the barn Sunday :( She said that they were thinking things would be good given the price of milk in January. Then everything shut down. They were going to get paid market rate (rather than the regular fixed price) for 85% of what they shipped and PAY $1/hundred weight for everything the company ended up dumping. That is right, PAY to have your product thrown out.

They were planning to transition out of dairy after 44 years, started the beef and greenhouse veg business last year, going to ramp that up. But with this pricing, they couldn't possibly continue to do the dairy. She isn't going to do the Farmer's Market this year, too many restrictions. Like you have to have 2 people at the booth. One to deal with money, one to deal with product. And apparently people are supposed to order ahead so it can be bagged up ready to go when the buyer comes through the market. Just not doable, I wonder how many others will skip the market this year. I know it is food only, no prepared food (which puts the Bosnian lady out, she sells a LOT of "lunch" at several Farmer's Markets in the area), no crafts.

Probably because they figure people will be bringing the virus to the processing plant. We can't even bring our reusable bags to the grocery store. I don't need or want any disposable plastic bags, I have them put the food back in the cart and bag it myself at the car. I have about 10 reusable bags.

Good morning everyone. Hope that you have another good day, Cap.
Thanks Sour, Margie, and Micro. I don't know how many chicks I have sold. Sold 7 to the lady today, she drove 3.5 hours one way to get them. She said she may want more! So $35 worth gone today. I bought some chicken feed , slightly more than Rural King and a hanging basket for $8. at Food Lion. You can't buy the geraniums for that much, there are 4 per basket.
I just took the last 8 chicks out of my bathroom, so I will take the brooder bins outside to wash them. Two incubators locking down on Friday! :wee
