The Old Folks Home

Or a HECK of a lot of dedicated "I'm not doing anything until I have read every post on the Old Folks Home thread. This post should be #108,000. At 10 posts per page that is 10,800 pages!

Gone with the Wind is over 1000 pages in paperback . . . I wonder how that would compare to this thread?

Yuuuuuuuupppppppp!!! There are A LOT of pages!!!! Which is why I said what I did lol even if one was able to read a bunch of pages in one day and only read this thread, no other threads, and not reply, just speed read, it would probably still take many many years. Heck, maybe decades. :lau  🙈

For the past 3 days, I've declared war on the rats that thought they were going to take over my coop. I've now got the upper hand. I had tried rat traps, baits, etc. Nothing was working, and they were worse than they've ever been. I turned dirt, and flooded everything. The first day, about 12 rats came out. I was able to kill a few, but really could have used an extra hand. It's not easy to dig, flood, and whack rats, all at the same time with only two hands. They're FAST too.

Later on, Dh went out there, and I had him cut all the tree limbs that were overhanging onto the coop roof, and inside the electric fence. Dd #1 helped guide him, and they dragged the limbs to the burn pit. While they were working, a couple of the rats were trying to get back to the coop area. Dh killed them.

Yesterday, I dug, and flooded again. Nothing. No tunnels, no rats. I know cutting all those branches has had a great impact.

Today, no droppings in the feeders, no tunnels, no signs of rats anywhere. The chickens seem happier too.

I had thought about seeing if there were any Terrier clubs around, but decided it would be pointless, if I did not deal with their means of accessing the coop. Now that's been done. The ones already inside, have been dealt with too. IF I continue to have problems, I will actually see about calling a Terrier club.

Nobody likes rats in their coop!
