The Old Folks Home

Speaking of DH he wants to know what you are using to pull that tree.
How specific?
  1. A tractor
    1. Mahindra 1533 - 2018 model
  2. Rope
    1. 3/8" Low stretch, breaking strength north of 4,000 pounds
  3. Block
    1. Single swivel (from my sailing days). Don't know the working load but surely less than 4,000 pounds
  4. Chain
    1. 3/8" link around the tree to hold the block (I have a "tree saver" strap coming today)
  5. Chain
    1. Choker chain with "needle" around the end of the log.
I'm only using this to pull the log down to the "trail" so I don't think I'll be exceeding the breaking strength of any parts. Once lined up on the trail I back up, remove the towing stuff and use the Quick Hitch like a logging arch to lift one end of the log up off the ground so I can drag it out to the field. Once at the field the log is cut to 8' (ish) lengths and I carry them up by the barn in batches with the pallet forks.

My name is Jan and I'm in north central Texas. Are you still open for new people? I have been a member for a couple of years but not very active until the last couple of weeks. We got 15 new chickens to add to an existing flock of 8. They are separated right now until we make sure they are healthy. I think they may have come from a "chicken mill". Is there such a thing? We don't know what breed they are we are kind of new to chicken collecting.

Welcome to the old folks home!

A lot of the hatcheries are like that with chicks.

:frow @JanR1 and welcome to the Old Folks Home. Of course you are welcome, lots of empty rocking chairs to sit in while we sit around and criticize the young folks and say 'Do You Remember When?' a lot.

Seriously though, This is a great group of old and not so old folks if I do say so myself. We love to have new members join us and enrich the subject matter and ideas. So grab a glass of your favorite beverage be it a beer, pop, coffee, or iced tea, settle back and enjoy watching the world go by with us.

@bruceha2000 we aren't brave enough to use rope. We generally use tow straps and chains. 6,000 pound pull strength on the chains which means they are a pain to pull around. Most of our property is sloped ridge country. Part of our pasture is flatish but even it has a degree of slope to it so we are usually facing pulling logs and limbs up a hill of some type.

I'm sure if my doctor or physical therapist saw me at work slinging heavy chains around and wrestling with these huge rounds of wood they would be yelling at me 'WE NEVER GAVE YOU THE OKAY TO DO THAT!'

So what they don't know won't hurt me!
