The Old Folks Home

So the Princess made scones tonight from a mix. I'm eating my second one and crunch on something unusually hard. First thought was that I had broken a tooth - been there, done that. I picked 'it' out of my mouth, noted that it was blackish (dried up blueberry?) and went on with my eating. After finishing I took 'it' to brighter light and determined that it was the head and thorax of a black beetle. :sick What's worse than finding a beetle in your scone ? Finding half of a beetle in your scone.

I bumped a big doe today back in the forest-a smaller one yesterday. There were fawn prints in a nearby stream bed so she probably had a little one nearby.

We found a dead fawn right at the edge of the timber by our house 6 years ago. It had fang marks in it's skull. Since our dogs found it and were barking at it instead of trying to drag it off I always figured that the Pyrenees flock guards they had watching over a flock of sheep next door got a hold of it and it made it that far before succumbing. Last summer Buck came up from the pond with a small foreleg of a fawn that was almost petrified.

Makes you wonder how many of them make it to adulthood.

My grandson has a bunch of Nerf guns. They shoot a small tube, like a tiny pool noodle, that one end is sealed with a plastic. We have Nerf shootouts on the porch. Sometimes a few don't make it into the toy box, when we pick up. Yesterday the duckling kept finding the ones we has missed. They're too big for him to eat, but I would take them away from him.

Today, he found one I had missed, picked it up in his mouth, and took off running. He KNEW he was not suppose to have it, and I was going to take it away. He ran to, and fro, darting all over, trying to avoid me taking it away from him. I walked swiftly behind him. He was so proud of himself, avoiding me so he could keep it. This lasted a pretty good while. It's too big for him to swallow, and as long as he doesn't sit down, and start picking pieces out of it, it's pretty safe. When he got tired, and sat down, I grabbed it from him. I replaced it with pieces of his duck food. Later on, I had my grandson toss one down. Quacker Sparkles came running, and grabbed it before it hit the ground. The chase was on. It's so funny to watch.

Thanks Beer. Great fawn pics! So cute! :love
Thank Micro.

Sour that would have made me lose my supper! :sick

I managed the echo pretty well. I did have a lot of pressure the whole time in my chest, neck and the back of my head.
