The Old Folks Home

It sounds like your heart is in good shape
And we know it is in the right place.

What's worse than finding a beetle in your scone ? Finding half of a beetle in your scone.
I'm sure that wasn't fun but better than breaking a tooth, no?

Plus I'm dealing with a bunch of broodies that I'm trying to break. I took one out of the buster cage tonight and stuck another in. Sigh.
I know that one! I had Nuit in the buster a few weeks ago when she couldn't walk one morning. After about a week in there Angel went broody so I stuck her in the "spare coop" stall with Nuit, no nest box there. Another few days and I decided Nuit had healed from whatever had gotten her down, let her out and put Angel in the buster. She came out 3 days ago, Betty went in last night :th

My Papillon was chasing a fawn today. I wasn't here.
Good thing Mama wasn't around or that little pup might have gotten a hard kick to the head or body!

but also there are very few outsiders just now
It only takes one outsider or one insider that went out and came back.

How old do you have to be to come into this group...@81, I am hoping that I qualify.
I believe that makes you the "Elder Statesperson"! Though the oldest in years on the planet, you might not be the oldest of body :D

Welcome to the Old Folks Home.

@Bunnylady, I applaud you!:clap I couldn't have ranted better myself.

Things seem to be getting crazier and more out of control every day. Who'a'thunk that 2020 would be such a well there is only one way to put it....screwed up year?

@featherhead007 and @Sandytheegglady glad you dropped in to say howdy and visit with us.

Our little town has 1300 people in it. I think the only thing anybody would protest is if the local grocery store ran out of fried chicken wings and Bud Light.

It was an absolutely beautiful spring day here. I wish I could bottle it and open it up in January. There is so much chaos in the world right now. Pandemics, violence, protests, unreasonable demands, history being destroy and over written....yet back in our forest, the trees are green, the deer are abundant, everything is fragrant, the wild daisies are blooming, the wild blackberry and raspberry bushes are full of fruit and it's quiet and peaceful.

All the troubles of the world seem far away and frankly, we like it this way.

Welcome to the Old folks home. Before YOU, I was second in line next to sourland to be the oldest. Now I dropped down a notch. :wee I feel so much better.Actually just sayin' that. I still feel the same. Maybe we could attract some even OLDER FOLKS :thumbsup.
I think just need some "self rocking," chairs and that would do it.

I hear ya, @bruceha2000. I have no room at the inn for more cockerel chicks. I'm going to be up to 12, maybe 13 SDW roosters, I suspect. Little pests and I call them that with the utmost affection. I have one little guy who can't figure out who he is supposed to mate. he tries to mate one of the large rooster's spurs and if that doesn't work he tries the rooster's foot. Luckily my older roosters are gentle and just shake him off. If I reach down to pet him he tries to mate my hand...which is only funny for a few seconds and then it's eeewwww, let GO of my hand you little twerp! The other day I saw him try to mount one of the other SDW roosters and was forced to break that one up. The object of Jester's attentions retaliated by trying to mate him.

So I have two roosters who are a bit light in the loafers as they say. I tell ya, my coop is a circus.

Speaking of half bugs, I saw the funniest thing happen last week. I let Cookie and her 3 chicks out in their run when the babies were 3 days old. Mom started digging around in their chips and came up with a big ugly beetle that she found. She immediately started calling her babies and beating that poor bug to death. One of the tinies ran up, grabbed it, tore the head off ran around doing chicken keep away until it found an empty corner and gulp, down that beetle head went.

Y'know, after being a chicken parent for 5 years, nothing surprises me. Being a newbie I would have screamed, started reading on the internet about chicks eating unusual things besides their chick crumbles and posting a frantic thread on BYC asking for urgent help.

Now I just say. OH! Extra protein! Here, have some grit to wash that bug down with. And throw them some chick grit and go back to what I was doing.

Let's face it, having chickens around along with animals in general is a lot like having kids. After the first one, it gets easier until finally, nothing ruffles your feathers.

Micro are the 5 red heelers behaving themselves or did Varn go awol?
They are doing great! And no, No more escapes from Varn. They are totally enjoying their huge back yard with built in natural swimming hole. The lagoon has a bit of a leak in it at the base of the levee. It can go from 4 feet deep to 4 inches in about a week but they are still splashing around having fun.

Varn has really matured in the past month. He's filled out, became more affectionate and more fun. He isn't a big player when it comes to catching the ball but he loves to play in the water and he and Roxie come in soaking wet.

And finally, the battles are starting to become less in number and less violent. Diesel still likes to bully the others around but when he gets too pushy with them and starts a fight I put a martingale collar on him along with a leash and he gets paraded out to the time out room and reminded who is really in charge and it isn't him.

They still hate cats but we can deal with that. The cats have their side of the house and the cattle dogs have the other! Luckily we have a big house with an attached shop.

Thanks Beer. Great fawn pics! So cute! :love
Thank Micro.

Sour that would have made me lose my supper! :sick

I managed the echo pretty well. I did have a lot of pressure the whole time in my chest, neck and the back of my head.
Montgomery has had a lot of new out breaks. Posting new restrictions again. Back to everyone must wear a mask.
i’m hoping for an easy fix.
The problem is, most people don't want to wear a mask. So they don't.
