The Old Folks Home

In our house growing up my mom and sister made our school clothes. We each got one pair of shoes a year. When school was out and our shoes didn’t fit we went barefoot.
I babysat all summer and told my mom who usually took all my babysitting money, that I wanted to buy my own school clothes.
She was not happy but she did give me some money.

when I got my first job I bought new clothes every week.
My dad made me a clothes rack that was in the garage. Lol
When I got in a wreck and wound up in the hospital for a week.
My sister did my laundry for me. She came and asked me if
I knew I had 40 pairs of jeans. I said oh no. I need to buy some more! Lol I was joking. But I guess I had to buy all I could. So I would not ever have only 2 outfits again! Because growing up that’s all we got.
And I did buy the 50 dollar jeans and clothes from the mall.
Which I had never been able to do before. And my little sister and I wore the same size and I didn’t mind sharing. Lol
But I also gave my parents money for room and board. 200 a month.

KDOGG, I totally agree about the tv content. The foul language, sexual content, nudity, violence, and demonic/witchcraft/evil content have gotten out of hand. Hollyweird doesn't do "family" stuff anymore. You even have to be very careful with kid's cartoons nowadays too. They seem to be against family, family values, innocence of youth, morals, decency, ethics, etc.
You are right about people, especially the elitists, and our youth, embracing the swill they're dishing out.

Morning everyone.

@KDOGG331 I enjoyed reading your post. Interesting to see things from a younger set of eyes.

I remember reading historical data. Back in the 1800s and into the early 1900s actors and actresses were considered to be well I hate to say it this way but scum of the earth. Even now, Prince Edward told Prince Harry when he announced he was going to marry Megan Markel 'one does not marry actresses. We date them'

Now people hang on every word they say and if this one or that one tells them to stand on their heads and let somebody put hot coals on their feet because they think it's a good idea, by golly they go out and do it.

It's a strange world we live in.

Clothes for me are comfortable jeans and t-shirts. I especially like hooded Ts in the winter. I've found that if I keep my neck warm, all of me is warm. Summer wear is shorts and tanks or shorts and Ts. I do keep some nice clothes for dress up which is rare.

I don't like crowds or parties either,@drumstick diva.

Hi @Alaskan Talking about today's youth, I was thinking of you and your boys. You have GREAT kids. What is your secret to raising exceptional children in today's environment?
Thank you Micro!!

It sure is a strange world now!!!

It’s amazing to me how much people care about celebrities now. Even to the point of watching all those stupid talk/gossip shows and reading the tabloids and stuff haha people suggest a new diet or new this and people do it. And the covers are so bright and chaotic and draw people in.

And I like t shirts too!!! It’s basically all I wear. :lau

BTW, it's not just tv. Most of the video games are horrible too.
Yes!! Exactly!! You said it much better than me haha it’s amazing to me how nasty some of the cartoons and kids shows are now. Even the non violent parts or whatever, they’re so mean, even cruel at times, to each other!! And kids are learning from that!

And I’m glad you mentioned the demonic/witchcraft/evil stuff too because I had forgotten about that but you are absolutely right!! And even other horror categories too. There’s so much of it. I can’t watch any of that stuff. I don’t like horror to begin with, I am very easily scared, but I especially don’t mess with anything demon or paranormal related or anything like that and it seems like there’s a lot of it!!

Heck, even look at shows like Lucifer literally glorifying the devil :th even supernatural does it a bit even though he’s technically a “villain.”

But especially the first one I mentioned.

It sucks because it does sound like a good show but I refuse to watch it.

I agree with all the tv shows. I don’t watch much tv. I do not watch horror due to the demonic and witch craft and evil in the shows or movies. We watch stuff like Alaska last frontier, gold rush. And The seven little Johnstons and the Alabama sextuplets. But they just don’t give us much of a choice these days. I didn’t let my kids play violent video games either.

The violent video games are a BIG problem. We have an Xbox 360 just for fun. Usually we do auto races and I have a Star Trek video game. We bought a 'war' centered game and a zombie game just to check them out.

Talk about violent....We finally stopped doing them simply because of the mind numbing violence of them. DH looked at me at one point and said 'no wonder all the mass shooters are 20 something males! They are playing these games all day and half the night!' We tossed them in a box somewhere. Don't even know where they are now. I'll stick to the auto races and star ship battles thank you.

Do you all think that it's a lack of parental control that is causing all the trouble with today's youth? Parents are letting the teens buy the violent video games/ suggestive clothes/ inappropriate movies/tv shows because it's easier to give in then battle with them about it?

I keep remembering an Episode of South Park.....not a kids show under any circumstances.....where the parents were all on a kick to put their kids on drugs for ADHD. Every kid in town was on it and hallucinating or staring off in a stupor. Somebody finally told the parents to wake up. The kids didn't need drugs in order to behave here's what they needed...and the character walked over to a kid sitting at a table with school books in front of him throwing a hissy fit, screaming and crying. The guy whacked the kid a good one and told it to 'shut up and do your homework!' kiddo immediately did just that.

Now I don't condone hitting kids, but the gist of the statement was...be a parent and make the kiddo mind you. Discipline, dealt out in a loving and reasonable manner, is what ever child needs. desires even from their parents. It seems to be lacking in a percentage of today's modern families.
