The Old Folks Home

I had to get tested for covid before my doctor would do a procedure on me. On Sour's B-day I was 'determined' to be negative for the virus. Of course that doesn't mean I haven't encountered someone brimming with it in a close encounter (stranger) at the produce section of the grocery store. Who knows? Actually, it would be more likely at the ice cream section but I think the intense cold in the freezer might be protective.

Actually I have been pretty much sheltering at home throughout my life. I'm not a wild, flamboyant individual, I don't party or drink or smoke, or do recreational drugs. I am a dyed-in-the wool hugger but, never inflict myself on anyone without getting the "go ahead," from them first.

"SOME people" think when you reach a certain year in your life you are decrepit or worse. Actually it means you managed to somehow dodge the bad things out in the world and are still breathing. Mazel tov (congratulations) to all who have.

Yep. The scenario:
DW works in one location, Manager has that and another slightly larger location where they reside. We are talking small numbers of people. Someone in the other location and their spouse stupidly took a trip to TN, a nice hotbed of Covid, 2 weeks ago and against all state regs did NOT stay home when they returned  "Someone" was in their location all last week (not DW's location) and in daily contact with Manager. Apparently Manager actually knew "someone" had gone to TN and didn't self isolate 14 days

Saturday Manager comes to DW's location to help the other person there. Wasn't real close to DW but was there 1.5 hours. DW got a call Sunday night that "someone's" spouse with "cold like symptoms" had tested positive on Friday, results just in. At that point DW was 2 contacts away from the Covid positive person.

DW and I immediately split up, I'm in the bedroom at the other end of the house so IF "someone" was positive AND passed it on to Manager AND if DW got it she'd have had it about 18 hours, thus the question. Trying to figure out if there is any chance I could have picked it up if DW was infected since doing so would seriously screw up my life and that of others even if I personally never suffered any symptoms. Timing wise do I dare deliver eggs to my regular customers on Friday? And do I dare do any shopping Friday, as I have been doing every other week for the past couple of months, for DW's 87 Y/O mother and 95 Y/O father who live in a tightly controlled retirement community? So far the community has stayed clean.

"Someone" got tested Monday - got the call from Manager tonight, quelle surprise - positive. Oh, and she thinks maybe those "allergy symptoms" she had the last week or so might not be allergy related. YA THINK!?!?!?!

So now DW is 1 contact away from a positive. Manager and others in the other location will now have to get tested (tomorrow I guess, results maybe Sat??) and IF Manager is positive, DW and the person Manager was helping in DW's location will have to get tested. DW is immune compromised with RA, the other person in her location is a cancer survivor.

There are going to be a WHOLE lot of unhappy "customers" when Manager's "essential service" location doesn't open tomorrow. I have no idea how that will be handled. Even if they send in a cleaning squad, there wouldn't be people available who know that location well enough to run it until they find out if anyone else at that location got it from "someone".

I would SO dearly love to :smack:smack:smack:smack:smack:smack:smack:smack:smack"someone", their spouse and Manager straight to the moon. And from there on to Mars.
STUPID EFFING PEOPLE!
I would think 18 hours would mean that YOU are safe....

But.... I would play paranoid and I would

1. I would super hazmat/clean myself, drive eggs with all windows down, place eggs on ground. Tell customers ahead of time the situation, let them pick delivery or not...

2. For the elderly people you are shopping for... figure out grocery delivery, paid service or someone else. No way should you go near them.

3. Ditto for you, no shopping for yourself either.

4. I don't think you need to quarantine for a full 14 days... I am hearing that a positive test pops up, usually, way earlier than that. Pretty much, wait 10 days, if wife has no symptoms, especially if she tests negative, you are good.

Hopefully your tests will come back negative!
We aren't being tested ... yet.

Both of you go get tested.
Can't ... yet. There is only so much capacity and they won't test on demand ASAP unless:
  1. You have symptoms
  2. You have been in contact with someone who has tested positive.
  3. The other option is to sign up for a "pop up" test, they only do it on Thursdays up here and there is at least a 2 week wait list.
So we have to wait until Manager gets tested and receives results. IF positive, then DW will get tested and I would have to wait for her results. IMO, given Someone was in frequent contact with their spouse, and probably whoever said spouse got it from in TN, and Manager was in contact with Someone all last week, Manager and everyone else at that work location should have been tested Monday when Someone was and we would already know if DW needs to get tested.

Who knows how many other people Someone's and spouse were around all last week. Our county has already gone up from 0 new cases in the last 2 weeks to 2 - them.
