The Old Folks Home

DH had inherited his parent's home in Sebring. We sold it not long after we married and to this day we shake our heads and say dumb dumb dumb. Then we look at one another and say 'hurricane' then it switches to not so dumb not so dumb.

In all seriousness there are times in the winter that we wish we had kept it and retired down there but it was in a nice residential area in town and we are both country people plus he had to have a new roof put on it after hurricane damage a year earlier.

Here we only have to worry about the occasional tornado warning or Derecho winds roaring through. The only thing weather wise that we can really count on is ice and cold in the winter. The rest is open to interpretation and debate.

School is NOT voluntary. It's a Federal law, and there could be State, and County laws as well. VPK was voluntary, when it first started. While the website(s) say it still is, and technically it is, but you can expect a visit from Children's Services, if you do not enroll your child when they turn 4. Somehow, it's considered a form of not properly caring for your child, if you don't.
Oh... interesting... I was so curious...

I had to look it up. I found this page done in 2018, that lists by state, what age you must start school.

Florida is age 6 by Feb, Alaska is age 7, oldest is Washington state with age 8.

@microchick - went to the dermatologist today. Texted from the parking lot. They texted back when I could enter. Masked, temperature checked, health questions asked - everyone in the office wearing masks. The difference in the way things varies so greatly from state to state, I see no chance of containing/controlling this virus. Right now NJ is pretty good. Flareups/hotspots are generally traced to someone coming in from out of state. :he

Yeah... but all of you high population, oodles of ways to enter your state people... not sure how you could really crack down.

Alaska though... easy to crack down! And wow! Getting back home tomorrow is going to be interesting.

They updated mandates again... harder to get back in, but more logical/in line with the virus... so... whatever... I will make it. :old

Finding N95 masks is the trick. I still have stacks of masks from the Great Methotrexate Experiment of 2018-19. They are only two ply and I think N95s are 3 ply so I wear two. Which means four layers so I'm technically safe. Plus I have one of those cloth, two layer masks so I can wear one of my surgical masks along with it and still have 4 layers.

But talk about hypoxia! The moment I cross our driveway gate, I am ripping those puppies off and tossing them. I'm mildly claustrophobic anyway so this isn't helping me one bit.

I'm amazed how somebody with compromised breathing deals with it. I couldn't.

Got a surprise today. DH has an appointment with his dermatologist this week. He called them today to see what precautions they were taking to insure patient safety. None. Not one thing. Staff is masked but it's 'optional' with patients. My doc is operating behind locked doors everyone wearing masks, only one patient in at a time and the clinic where I get my prolia shot is even stricter.

I'm amazed and frankly shocked. He rescheduled for next month but he's as much high risk as I am. We aren't sure what he's going to do.
Some of my Drs are still just doing phone calls. (Pa) Every other chair had a sticker on it so you social distance. They aren't giving many appointments, keeping the waiting room empty and instead tell you to go to the emergency room. At the lab today they have the option to wait in your car till they call you.
