The Old Folks Home

I must have a lot of wusses then - most of my clutches are still with mom longer than that! Maria's are coming 12 weeks for example...though Eve drove her first 2020 clutch off at 9 weeks.
I took the chick from my Seramas because they only hatched one. They laid for a little while, now they are back broody again.

@capricronfarm, that is my kind of rooster! I love it! Seriously so ugly it's cute to the point of adorable!

@ronott1, I have a hen who stayed with her chicks until they were 16 weeks old. She would sit on the roost bar with them under her wings and her wings were out at 90°. It was funny to see them. These chicks are almost as big as Screech is at 8 weeks old thanks to their faster maturing Fayoumis genes.

I would leave her in with them but I needed to merge the two clutches which are only a week apart in age and was afraid to leave her in with the three brooder chicks. They are sweet birds (my miracle chicks from broken eggs) and I didn't want them to get pecked and hurt.

My spring chicks' mothers walked away from their babies at 4 weeks. I think that is the average for me.

Um, why is their dog with you ? Doggysitting?
He pretty much live here.. .Neither one of their dogs have adequate food or shelter. Meine comes begging when storms are approaching.. She's as bad as Gator when it comes to storms... scaredy cats! Lilbit is NOT and outdoor dog.. He tolerates heat to a point, then comes in where it's cool... he doesn't tolerate cold at all... so in he comes. And that's that!

@CSolis I would offer to buy the dogs from the people. Bet they would take whatever you offer them. Animals know when they are loved. Bless you for being a good fur mother.

@CapricornFarm. I don't think I have enough rat traps to do that but I think I will put out a mouse trap or two.

I saw a mouse in the new coop this morning. Couldn't figure out where it went but I found a hole in one of the older (new construction 4 years ago) 2X4s that makes up the wall between the two coops, stuck my finger in it to see how big it was and touched...you guessed it, the mouse. Ran the little sucker down I did and like I told my husband, got my dose of bad Karma for the day. Then I hardware clothed the holes I found.

Welp, it's like this... the old lady next door says she can't get her dog Meine to eat.. Meine was almost afraid of the bowl of food as though it had fire ants in it... she's over that..
;)
I offered to take Lilbit, Old lady was happy as the dog was a 'drop off', daughter comes over pitching a fit, but says... If you pay half the vet bills I'll share him with you.. I said Nope... Three days later Mr Po Po is knocking on my door about a dog dispute.. I say no dispute, not paying vet bills on a dog not mine.. dog likes it here..he can come and go as he pleases... And that was that. A fine how do you do from a neighbor when I moved in.
I don't have to own the dogs to be a blessing to them.
