A nippy 17 degrees here this morning. No wind, so it feels a tad warmer.

Wrapping gifts and making eggnog today. I'll put on some Christmas tunes (I grew up with the ones from the Dean Martin/Bing Crosby/Nat King Cole/Andy Williams era, so prefer those with acoustic guitar carols being the second preference.)

This is what I found: The Maunder Minimum occurred with a much longer period of lower-than-average European temperatures which is likely to have been primarily caused by volcanic activity

Volcanic activity not the lack of sun spots

Yeah, I didn't say sun spots caused global climate change, nor a lack of. I said that they speculate that they have an effect on extreme weather conditions like severe weather.

The point the Maunder Minimum makes is that due to volcanic activity, and yes, dimming of the sun that the article I read happened during a sun spot minimum, climate change has been around forever.

Are we exacerbating naturally occurring changes due to manufacturing and automobile emissions? Well sure we are but like I've said in the past. The US can modify its behavior till the cows come home but until global pollution giants like China stop puking out record level pollutants via its manufacturing sector and until the US can stop enabling them from doing it due to massive imports of China manufactured items, nothing is going to change. It is only going to get worse.

Plus with the new 'Woke Society' movement underfoot, how can the US be so against recognizing it's own history of slavery and suppression of the black population in the country and yet support China with it's slave and child labor in it's manufacturing?

I hate hypocrisy.

We need to cut that umbilical cord with China. Or at least partially sever it. I'm afraid neither is going to happen in the near future, so everybody keep your Albuterol inhalers close by cause it's going to be a bumpy ride.

Enough. I stopped by to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas. Eat cookies, drink egg nog, have a belly busting meal and most of all stay safe and remember the shut ins who are spending Christmas alone. Call, email, Zoom them and let them all know that they are missed and loved.

It has been a beautiful day here, blue skies, brilliant sunshine, not too cold (no frost), and they've finally done the Brexit deal - that's a good enough present for me!

I just went out and broke ice off of the chicken's waterer. Guess it's time to plug it in.

81 today, 42 tonight. So far, our early Christmas has been really good.
