The Old Folks Home

So last Tuesday we had two inches of snow and the temps were in the low 30s. Today it's 85, sunny, windy and I'm wearing shorts.

Weather. Go figure.

@CapricornFarm, dear lady, I'd tell you to take it easy, sit back and keep that knee up with some ice on it but I know you! I'd have to throw myself in front of you to slow you down and you'd just climb over me to get to your latest project. Ask me how I understand that so well? :hugs

No, I don't slow down when I need to either and I have a feeling when the rheumy sees my swollen right foot tomorrow what she tells me I ain't gonna like to hear.

I'll probably be having to take my own advice.

I ain't old! I'm well seasoned!

Okay, I'm almost 68. I'm old. But I refuse to act my age!

I was on the Internet this afternoon looking for shorts. Is it my imagination or is everything either styled for 20 year old women of the world's oldest profession or 35 year old women of the world's oldest profession? I mean Daisy Dukes? These are shorter than Daisy Duke's Daisy Dukes. Guess I'll be cutting off more jeans or pants for Bermudas unless I can pull a rabbit out of a hat and find what I'm looking for.

OMG... Hoovers Hatchery responded to my email.. and they are going to contact the store. I asked them while I was responding to their request, what was shipped to the store 7 weeks ago since the AmeraUcanas and Black Sex Link pullets can't be what was advertised. I'm dying to know what my little black ladies really really are since I see some white lacing around the head and neck feathers of one, and absolutely no red leakage on either, which by now they should have some.

I think Hoovers provides chicks for Orschelns also.

Of course knowing the local TSC in Kirksville they would probably put Black Sex Links in with ducks and swear they were ducklings. I always thought that stores should hire somebody part time who knows chicks who's only job was to answer questions and take care of the birds that they sell.

Honestly. I had a couple of young women examining chicks at Orscheln's two years ago. These birds were a good 3-4 weeks old, mostly feathered BO pullets and the lady wanted to buy them but she was uncertain of their age and was trying to explain to the person on the phone (probably who she was buying them for) what they looked like. When she hung up, I struck up a conversation with her and told her an estimate of how old they were and how to tell their age by their feathering. She was thrilled that somebody knew and immediately called the other party back and told them.

These places would probably sell a lot more chicks if they had people working for them that knew a chick from a duckling.

Would wild birds have same behaviors as chickens if we personally interact with them? Do wild birds get to know us if they hang around the house alot? Here's the thing. Every morning the past week and a half a robin keeps banging on our porch door a little earlier then I go out to feed the chickens. Same time every morning. At first I thought he can't see the glass. But he lands on the porch railing, jumps to the floor, runs to the door and bangs on it. He repeats it over and over. When I open the door he flies to the trees where the chickens are. It's the door I go out to feed the chickens. What the??..

Sounds like he's in love with your chickens and is providing for them. :thumbsup
