The Old Folks Home

Few days back put my JG/Nn cross rooster, JG hen, and a old polish and Easter egger in also so they weren't lonely different color eggs so I can pick out JG eggs. Put them in just a dog kennel I made into a coop. Had the thought back before I just got on or maybe before BYC that the Easter egger was my worst one getting out of the coop and roosting in trees every night. Thought well this has eight foot tall walls and she's several yrs old now should be ok. Went out at dark, EE and polish both roosting on top of the cage.
Knocked them both in went in to get scissors cut one EE wing couldn't find polish anywhere looked with flashlight everywhere. Next morn saw she was in coop apparently beings she so small must have been hiding behind rooster that night. Came home from work, saved her from her hanging and cut one wing. She's stayed ground level since.
Silly hens shouldn't have spurs :lau she was fine she's my only calm bird

Yum!

Home grown duck is so good! :drool

I had a hen get tangled up and dangling a few weeks back.... just a freak accident. :idunno

Anyway, when I got her down I felt her all-over super carefully, and everything felt ok.

But... she wouldn't put any weight on that leg.

So I put her in my white tractor. It took a LONG time for it to improve. At day three I was thinking that we should whack her, but the kids talked me out of it.

It was interesting how slowly she improved. Very tiny bits at a time.

Anyway, she is back with the main flock now and able to keep up.

Surprisingly, she kept laying the entire time.

Glad she wandered in for you Penny.

We survived the 24+ hours of HAM radio Field Day with only a few technical difficulties and over 300 contacts that we can add to our club's totals this year. It always totally amazes me when the results come out and you see where some clubs have totals in the 5 digit range. It's like, don't these people eat, sleep or take a leak for 24 hours? Do they just sit by their radios chanting CQ CQ CQ?

We set for awhile, did contacts. took breaks, did something else, did more contacts. At noon today my eyes were starting to cross and I was thinking of ways to smash my gear so I turned it all off and announced All Done! And left the shack.

On the chicken front, my little rooster who got the snot kicked out of him by two younger roosters is continuing to improve also. His gouged out neck is filling in nicely but I fear he has lost an eye to the ordeal. He also stands like a swan with is head tucked into his neck earning him the new name 'Swan'. He was acting really down today so I brought one of my perpetually broody hens in and stuck her in the pen with him. Instant tonic. He's guarding her and she is scratching around looking for the grain he has spilled.

Hope Y'all have a great Sunday.

I would give him vitamin E with Selenium just in case.
