The Old Folks Home

Two. Though lately the 4 legged kind is likely. They had to tranq a full grown black bull on Interstate-15 yesterday morning.

I gotta find that article.

When I got my first (rented) house we had a garage. My first garage experience, ever. A squirrel fried himself (or herself, I didn't ask) on the transformer and blew our power one day. I had no idea how to get my car out of the garage. Silly, I know. But I was late to work panicking. I hate squirrels and their propensity to cause power outages.

Welcome Sue and Debi!!
Arielle..you should see this EE! She has gotten so beautiful I am still waiting for an egg. Her coloring is just beautiful! She is a pretty dark blue on the head and neck, with...some redish brown color in it. Her body is a lighter blue. She is one that has that sweet look to her face/eyes. I will have to get a picture of her. She comes by me when I lean down. Very friendly for not laying yet. Going to be a big girl when she is finished growing. Love her!

THe americana boys are pretty big--much bigger than hatchery roosters.
Quote: Yummy!! Bet my boys will love THIS !

But ideas, ideas. I need them.

Last year I did a chicken family... momma hen, dad (the roast) and 2 chicks.

What do you mean you can't carve? That is a master piece!!! Love it, even if the pic is a copy.
Quote: SCG that's the problem, it isn't a government job. This is a job posting within our own company.

Never did get a rescheduled time yesterday.

Woke up this morning to no power and the electric company saying that the problem should be fixed by 3:30. At 3:30 the recording changed to there are crews on site and we can expect our power on by 11:30. Yay

Much easier if the initial message is that they are working on it and NOT give a specific time. SOmehow it makes it all the worse.

Well the position is pretty important. It is site manager for a program that just started up this year and could make the company quite a bit of money. I understand the additional interviews, they want to make sure they are selecting the right person. I get that. The problem I have is all of this stalling just shrinks down the time I will have to get out there. I know that the person who is filling in right now is supposed to go back to the contract he was hired to work on by the 16th of November. I still have to train a replacement for my job if I get this one. I am not going to leave my boss short handed.
WIth the power out and no coffee, I absolutely want to crawl back in to bed and not face the day. Not looking forwards to no shower this morning either.

I was just thinking about all that hay you have in storage--bet it is worth a whole lot more now than when you bought it. OUr hay guy is working on third cut this week. My horses have been sucking down the second cut which looks and smells like third cut. Boy they love that stuff.

Dropped a bale and did n't get back to it for a day. Hens found it. Pulled out a lot of it it is so fine. 6-10 hen spent the day pulling and clawing .

Have fun!!! I remember when an ostrich got away from a farm and attacked a guy changing his tire too.

Well I am really glad that yesterday is over. I have no idea what caused the power outage yesterday. Around here it could have been anything. We have had sunny days and lost power for ??????? reason. To top it off, apparently there was some kind of surge at work that may have done something to my work computer. It won't stay connected to the LAN. I tried everything yesterday to get it to work and pretty much troubleshot the problem to the computer. Hopefully IT will be able to help me since I just recently transferred all of my work files to a shared drive that requires LAN connection to get to them. I did that so that I could access them from anywhere but that now means I can't access them at work. Funny how things work out. The final interview went really well. I am pretty sure I was able to answer his questions in ways that built confidence in my ability to run the site. So now we just wait some more.

Arielle, I have eyeballed the hay for possible sale if they don't eat it all first.

Right now it could be a couple of months before I move them. I have a great hauler lined up but I still have to find a place to live and we still have to get DH lined up with a job out there. He may be here for a while with DS until everything works it's way out.

Glad the final interview is over for your sake. Waiting is hard. Praying you get the job.

Sounds like the horses will have the winter to eat it all up. Hay prices here have soared to $8-8.50 a bale for second cut. First cut is $6.50. Dealer keeps saying there will not be enough hay with the long haulers taking it. THey don't usually poach this far north. I did notice that one of my regular suppliers has not increased his prices by much. Makes me wonder if the dealer is trying to snow me. I like the dealer, they are always pleasant; but I do feel like I'm working with a car salesman, lol

Arielle, $8.50 a bale (is this two or three string?) is actually a good price around here. I was able to find two string bales (only about 50lbs a piece) for $6 when it was growing season and I had to drive an hour to get there. During the winter, if you can find any, two string bales can go for $10 to $12 a piece. Arizona is worse. I was paying $12 for three string Bermuda and $13 for alfalfa. It is even higher now and this was straight from a wholesaler. The feed stores were selling grass at $16 and alfalfa at $17. At least you could get it at a feed store. In Utah, you can get 40lb compressed bales for $12.
No word on the job yesterday and I am almost convinced that our IT section is made up of ex TSA workers. You know what I mean?
