The Old Folks Home

Funny, Ijust got this months' Missouri conservationist magazine and what did they have as one of the stories?

Walking into spider webs. Rule of the day when we walk in the timber now. Pick up a spider stick to knock the webs out of your face. Forgot that the other night and was picking spidies out of my hair for an hour afterwards.

Knew I had a pic on here somewhere, found it, not the best of pics but it was huge. Showed DW who is deathly afraid of spiders, no big deal she says, had them all the time around their barn growing up. Huh? Looks poisonous to me, ... no she says, just a orb spider.
Girl has woke me up from a dead sleep screaming more than once cause she 'thought' she saw a spider, (while she was sleeping)...

We get the golden orbs here, and banana spiders, banjo spiders, and several other types. Those are not poisonous, but annoying. Add a little lemon juice to water, and put it in a sprayer, or spray bottle, then mist the area you tend to get spiders. You won't see any for a long time. It's an easy, non-toxic way to get rid of them.

You don't appreciate their size until you see one in person. Their bodies are almost the size of a bantam egg. The first time I saw one here I thought I'd encountered a new alien species.

Nope, just a golden orb garden spider.

Also here are Luna moths. Usually there is one hanging on our kitchen window at night that stays there all night and disappears in the morning. They are huge also and quite beautiful.
