The Old Folks Home

Can't fix mother nature, Penny, unfortunately. Just like you can't control the Mississippi River. People try, even succeed for awhile and then the right flood comes after a heavy winter snowfall in the north that melts and it's all bets off!

I'm still saying as I have in the past that man is partially responsible. But until we can find a better, sustainable power source and until you can get countries like China to stop dumping unbelievable amounts of pollution into the air, it isn't going to get any better, only worse.

Plus look at meteorological history. The earth goes through cycles and has gone through cycles like this since they started keeping records.

Also the solar minimum has an effect on our climate. I'm just waiting to see what happens as we swing out of the solar minimum cycle and into solar maximum. They are starting to see signs that is happening.

One of the problems with the new electric cars is what goes into making the batteries. Trust me it's not doing our climate any good. Sometimes I think we would all be better off if we all took a lesson from the Amish and went back to horse drawn conveyances.

Are you aware the post you replied to is WAY old?

Are you flooded and lacking power in your part of LA??

Me? I like to read before I go to sleep.
So does DW. Problem is if she doesn't fall asleep while reading she often stays up WAY too late reading. She has to get up at 5:15AM

On the other hand, my better half can fall asleep between saying 'good' and 'night'.
Sounds about right :D

Does this help any?

Can't access the video right now, Bruce. But people seem to think that like food on the grocery shelves, it all comes from the back of the store and not from the farms and manufacturers.

Electric cars need electricity to recharge. You plug them in. Where does that electricity come from? Power plants. What do most power plants use to produce electricity? Coal. What does coal produce? Pollution.

We need a sustainable power source that doesn't cause pollution and until we find that oh blah dee oh blah da, the pollution goes on.

I guess I look at things from a different angle and we will have to agree to disagree. We are dependent on foreign manufacturers to provide us with essential things that we need to be 'comfortable' and entertained. Not all countries have the stringent regulations in place the the US does. To them, the $$$$ outweigh the pollution that they pour into the environment. Just remember those pictures that hit the news a year or so back of the clouds hanging over Hong Kong of pure toxin that was so bad people were barely able to go outside.

This is my point. Somebody needs to make those batteries for those electric cars and somebody has to make the power that goes into making those batteries.

The US is going all-in on EV battery production. Yes, China currently dominates the market for producing the batteries crucial to EVs.Feb 5, 2021

How many of you used to track hurricanes? I did for a lot of years, and the tropical depressions that came off the west coast of Africa. Most major storms started there and picked up speed while crossing the Atlantic ocean. Now all of a sudden things have changed. Tropical depressions just pop up in the gulf and quickly gain speed to hit the US. Hmmmmm, seems like something has changed a bit.
If you ever have a chance look up HAARP. Yes, weather can be controlled, and it seems to me like somebody is surely being a busy body. And before you rant about conspiracy theories, tell me how many so called conspiracy theories have been proven to be correct in the past few years.

CS, I've been saying that for awhile now. We used to have an air trough that would drop down during the fall months, during hurricane season. It did a great job of repelling most of the hurricanes, and storms, or at least keep them moving away from us. Last year, that trough was barely there, and this year the same thing. Tropical storms that should have veered, have not. Several tropical storms, and hurricanes that should not have stalled, did. Several that did not have solid defined eyewalls, should have dissipated quickly, but did not. Nothing is "normal" about the behavior of many of these storms. Look at rain patterns. Those too have been way off, not just this year, but for the past couple years. No, it's not about pollution, or climate change alone. I agree HAARP is highly culpable.
