That reminds me. Bonnie used to hide behind me so the BO rooster couldn't find her. She would even get up under my arm when she was younger and let me scratch her. Now it's DON'T TOUCH DA FEATHERS! Seems as though there's been a minor explosion in the pen where she resides.. Overnight a big ploof and Bonnie feathers everywhere. It's her first big molt and I expect it's only going to get worse in there.. A Bonnie feather carpet.I spent some time in the run today, sitting with the chickens. It sprinkled a little, and sounded very pretty on the roof!
The pullets, whom I handled much more than my first batch of chicks, like to be near me. They peck at my pants and my shoes. When they do, I pet them. They don't really like to be petted, so I tell them, you peck me, I pet you. I don't mind the pecking, and I want to be able to handle them more.
Maybe my next batch of chicks will be cuddlers...
My DW is visiting thee next at the end of the month.Great fun watching the hot-air balloons this week after a year's absence of the International Balloon Fiesta in next-door ABQ. Nice to sit on the patio and watch them drift by. DH missed them all (late sleeper) except for the Special Shapes day when he was up early for an appointment. If you look closely you can see a dragon and flying pig, what landed across the street in the second (a fish), plus a couple of my favorite balloons (ristra and love sign) in a pic that a friend took from the Balloon Fiesta Field proper. Several cruised low over our orchard and coop looking for landing spots, which the chickens did not enjoy in the least and voiced long and loud their alarm.
