The Old Folks Home

It's the caffeine, Bruce, along with some enzymes that I need a doctorate in chemistry to remember and spell right . I've spent much of the past 5 days reading about food, digestions and foods' effect on your digestion and why certain things don't work for peeps with IBD.

Some enzymes interact negatively with digestive enzymes in people who have IBDs and changes the food enzymes into chemicals that cause inflammation in the bowel lining. Same with caffeine.

I'm day 5 without coffee. I think my poor husband is ready to make a pot, tackle me, pin me to the ground and pour it down my throat. Not really but boy this detox from caffeine is as unpleasant as everyone makes it out to be.

Years ago the church I belong to back in IL had a wonderful young woman as associate pastor. I asked her one year what she was giving up for Lent and she said 'Cappuccinos' Seems as though every morning she would arrive at the church with an extra large cappuccino and savor it as long as possible. I always picked something easy, like I was going to give up hitting my hand with a hammer for Lent if they wouldn't go along with that I'd say 'ok, chocolate' But our next door neighbor would always give me a little easter basket filled with Cadbury easter eggs on Easter morning so it was worth the agony.

A week later I ran into the pastor again and asked her how her lent sacrifice was going. She immediately started blushing and stuttering. I told her okay, out with it. About that time the senior pastor came by and he started laughing. I said you cheated didn't you? She nodded and the senior pastor said we forced her to cheat. Seems like after a week of her going without caffeine the office secretary came to work with an extra large Cappuccino and handed it to the senior pastor who told the associate pastor, drink it or we are pouring it down your throat. I asked the young woman who was laughing, blushing and crying at the same time if she was really that bad. Oh I was horrible she admitted.

Moral of the story, sometimes you just have to do what you have to do and hope that the Almighty understands an act of desperation.
