The Old Folks Home

Quote: We have not even been able to acquire plain old homeowners insurance as of yet. Have tried several different companies, but most are insisting we heat with central heat, with a furnace and ductwork going to all zones of this house. That's not going to even be feasible. This house is a total remuddled mess....both on concrete slab AND piers. No insulation. No existing ductwork. No furnace. Pffft.

You might look at the feasibility of starting from scratch.

Around here, they tear down perfectly good houses just to build another on the same site.
Sounds dumb to me but they claim it's cheaper and faster than rehabbing.

Did feel anything. Neither myself or my DH. I haven't read yet when it happened. On the chicken SC FB page I go to, some felt it, some didn't. Most are just still dealing with power outages and ice storm damage.

I will see if I can get something similar for your area.

Wow, Ron, that's scary. We think alike. Both posted something from USGS within a minute.

I know! I love that site. We had a larger one--5 or so--by Quincy last summer so I have the site on by book marks bar.

I have USGS bookmarked for surface water charts. In the Ozark mountains, the stream flow changes dramatically with a little rain. My wife doesn't like to float if the streams are in flood stage and says she won't go if it has rained.
I pull up the charts to show her the water levels are dropping and not climbing.

We/I have canoed a lot in flood conditions. It takes a lot of skill and faith.
